Developer Digest
A few months ago, I decided to drop RPG Maker MV. Its technical limitations were really holding back my ideas, and I needed something more powerful to bring my project to life. Switching to Unreal Engine 5 was no walk in the park, but looking back at all the progress I’ve made, I can’t help but feel excited for what’s coming next! My goal is to create an unconventional adult game that focuses on fun—basically, I don’t want it to be some bland, forgettable experience.
Building The Island is a massive undertaking, especially as a solo dev. I’ve had to learn 3D modeling (Blender & Daz), animation (Cascadeur), sound design (FMOD), and of course, programming in Unreal Engine 5. Luckily, I’m finally reaching a point where I can start turning my vision into reality in a satisfying way.
Right now, I’m focusing on Rigify, making sure my characters are properly set up for animation in UE5. Exporting the models is going pretty well, though I still run into a few hiccups when converting the rig for Unreal.
Between all the testing and experimenting, I’m also taking the time to flesh out the backstory and fine-tune some details for this new version. If you played the old version, you’ll still recognize the characters and locations, but expect a few surprises when you step into The Island… in full 3D! 🎮🔥
