Sneak Peek # 13 - Modern Interlude [DRH Alpha 0.4 + BK]

Hello, Keepers!

Good news!

I've recently gone through some personal changes in life that will allow me to dedicate A LOT more time to my games!

To celebrate this, I've used a bit of my newfound free time to put a new idea into practice! Hope you like it!

The Conundrum:

Some players, both coming from the old school days of DKH and new, have issues with how the character interaction system works after the Court was introduced. They would rather have that "one on one", "tamagotchi-like", direct approach to handling characters, like it used to be in the older versions.

It's not unusual that I'll see comments like "you've got cool characters and scenes, but I can't stand the management complexity and walking around court!".

The Court system controls and interactions (and by extension DRH) are something that align 100% with my vision of what I want for the "final" game to be. However, I can definitely see where they're coming from.

The game has plenty of content that is enjoyed by a lot of players, and yet many will never get to see any of it because the complex nature of DKH/DRH bars them from entry.

The Possible Solution:

I've decided to put out a small, one-off standalone minigame called Border Keeper!

Border Keeper takes all of the lewd content you know and love from the same platform as the other games, and "presents" it through a mechanically simpler, point and click border checkpoint game, where you play the role of an officer tasked with verifying travellers statements and information before you grant them passage!

Everything you know and love -- from the physics, to cum splats, to personalities, to procedural characters -- it's all in there from the get go, but applied in a more accessible scenario. It features progression and unlocks in a way that is not too obtuse. Since it's a small project, it feels more cohesive, and a more polished experience overall.

Controls are just the mouse: all interactions are clickable. BK features the grab/slap mechanics with the cursor as well!

The main point is: I love DKH/DRH's depth. It's not something I'm willing to let go. This is why a new standalone experience is needed for those who feel gatekept by everything the main games throw at you at once, but would otherwise enjoy the lewd variety or character design!

What Border Keeper IS:

  • A small, purposefully simple yet infinitely replayable game.

  • A more straightforward way to access the game's lewd content, through a more cinematic, authored perspective.

  • A return of the "one-on-one only" relationship with characters.

  • A way to funnel people into the main games, when they'd be put off by their complexity at first.

  • An experiment with new mechanics that may be ported into the main games.

  • A finished game that may be updated later on, if patrons wish so.

Border Keeper IS NOT a new series or recurring title, it will not take the place of the main games or join the usual update cycle!

The game is finished and it's now being played by playtesters, as I'm making final adjustments for release! You can expect BK to be out within a week or two :).

Onto Dungeon: Raid Her - Alpha 0.4!

Besides the new Robot race, cum splats, penis variations and other new DKH additions being ported into the game, BK's content is also making their way into DRH!

Modern Outfits

All modern themed outfits and palettes from Border Keeper are coming to DRH/DKH!

Prop Idles

Prop seats and surfaces now feature more detailed, lively idle animations for their users.

Loads of other new animations are being added!

New Clothing Shaders

Work has been done to make clothing and fabric look more relatistic and less "plasticky", with new shading techniques. Ambient occlusion maps are now baked for every piece of clothing, giving their creases a more distinct look and getting rid of the "flat" visuals.

Clothing Clipping Fixes

New techniques are being used to prevent character bodies clipping through clothing!

A layering shader is being used to draw clothing with different depth offsets based on their layers. Cloth physics settings have been tweaked to make better use of backstops. Some overly energetic animations will momentarily disable cloth physics to avoid clipping, then toggle it back on.

Besides a few very specific animations in conjunction with cloth physics, there should no longer be any clipping in the game!

Performance Improvements

Clothing meshes have been optimized! A lot of work is being done on the Low and Medium settings to allow for playable, stable framerates on lower end PCs even if it means dropping detail and other effect types.

New Expeditions

A Robot themed dungeon is in the works, along with a major rework of existing points of interest on the map. Locations like shops, tavern or the bordello will feel a lot more complete! More on this in the next Sneak-Peek!

Camp Jobs + Traits

This is the first step into something huge: covering the gap between DKH and DRH.

Job Props are being worked on. Characters can be assigned to Job Props, as they will perform that work during your expeditions. This is how resource production will work in DRH, turning your camp into more than just visuals!

Character traits you know and love from DKH are also being ported into DRH! This affects who you take into expeditions, resource production, infighting in camp and more!

Events and special trait events can also be triggered as you come back from expeditions.

More on this in the next Sneak-Peek!

Camp Raids

On theme with the management depth in DRH: Your camp is now a target for raiding parties!

As you accrue wealth, enemies will band together and plan invasions on your camp! When coming back from an expedition, you will be notified of the attack and given time to prepare your defenses!

New defensive props are being worked on!

More on this in the next Sneak-Peek!

This is it, for now!

I'm really excited for how DRH will start bridging the gap between action game and colony simulator, as this is what I (and I'm sure a lot of you) had in mind for a long time!

I'm also eager to see you all enjoy Border Keeper. I'm really happy with how scenes and idle animations are looking in this one! For those used to DKH/DRH, BK may or may not be your thing, as it feels very different (on purpose!). It's worth a try in any case!

See you soon for the release of Border Keeper v1.0! Also, stay tuned for the next sneak-peek as well, with more detailed explanations and images on DRH Alpha 0.4 traits, jobs and raids!

could you put in like... a little pregnancy countdown? Or like little messages like "In a few months..." or "any day now!"

Would also be cool to see the games be combined u have created separate games of the same game when they could all be mashed together in one game

Can we keep getting updates to dungeon keep her will dkh ever get a roam outside feature it teased about go to different places explore kidnap etc be nice to see a 3d version of mad island kidnap take them explore new races and more sizes . Similar to how kobald kare does its sizes would be cool unrestricted compared to small big medium etc . Also can you make your game rely on more CPU cores instead of just 1 or 2 it's maxing out my 12600k 10 cores at 20-25% utilization on the full CPU . I've posted about it in the discord thread

I'm really looking forward to it! I don't quite understand the concept of the new game, but I'll definitely check it out. As for DRH, I'm looking forward to that even more—I really got into the game. I hope you'll fix the bugs and add more content.
