Decide 4r The Future (2025 Planning)

Hey Guys, I need your help with the decisions for this year...

As you might know, the initial plans for ''Road to Stockholm'' project was to create one gigantic-super-ultra-mega map, where you could drive from Hamburg, through Denmark, through Sweden to Stockholm. While this would definetely be possible, sadly due to the scale and size of the map, it will bring some problems. The biggest problem you can already notice when driving to the endpoints of Schweden / Hamburg, where the car and camera is starting to get shaky. This is simply because the map is too big, and ac engine is not able to calculate cars positon correctly if they are too far away from mid point of the map.

So there is pretty much only 2 options now:

1. - I could add Stockholm to Hamburg + Denmark + Sweden maps, but it will have the shaking cars bug and there would be nothing i could do about that.

or

2. - I could prevent the shaking problem by splitting the gigantic map into 2 seperate ones, meaning ''Hamburg + Denmark'' and ''Sweden + Stockholm'' would become seperate maps. Like this, you would not be able to drive from Hamburg to Stockholm in one map, BUT we would not have the shaking problem at all, and it would also allow me to put alot more detail and more high quality textures on the tracks.

I dont wont to give you a shaky map, but option 2 is also different then the initial plans, so I want to let you decide how this would roll out. Personally I would go with option 2 now, Hamburg and Stockholm would not be connected but both maps will look and perform alot better if we do it like this and they would still be insanely big (I mean, have you every reached the end of the map?)

Connecting Hamburg + Denmark + Sweden was already a huge technical challenge and no matter what option you choose there would be again be a ton of work involved. Also the reason why there is no new traffic mod yet is simply because it would need to be redone entierly again depending on what decision you make here.

I hope you like my creations so far and can understand that for me its very important to give you a good looking and good performing experience, wich would probably not be possible by adding Stockholm to those 3 already gigantic maps... Decide what is more important for you below.

Much Greets

I think you set the world record for the largest map in Assetto Corsa. That's insane and deserves respect. Please try always to provide the traffic lanes for practice single player so I can showcase your maps more often and easy to a wider audience.

In the future. However you can redo the long map by removing something superfluous a few kilometers reducing a little😻

I'm for anything that increases immersion, so voting to split the maps. However, I've been driving a lot in the server linked on Discord that has the maps combined, with working (more or less) traffic all the way from end to end, and it works well enough. I'm not really concerned about texture resolution when I'm weaving through traffic at 300km/h. Can we keep that in it's current state, and make the split tracks a new entity rather than over-writing it?

As an aside, I rarely make it to the end without falling through the map at some point due to as massive crash, but last night, I took out the BMW 235i, and I not only made it all the way to the Hamburg end, but managed to not fall into the void, turn around and made it all the way to the other end at Stockholm. Only had a couple of biggish crashes towards the end. Took about 57 minutes, and it was a blast. Not sure I want to lose that.

Splitting the map is better, more detail feeds realism fs, I suggested this before but just putting a lil reminder to please take up an NYC highways map after you're done with this project, you'd do great!

An idea for when this project is all finished up is the highway in San Antonio Texas called 1604, theres many ways to simplify the name (1604, loop 1604, San Antonio etc) and because of the layout of the city, (3 loops of highways from downtown to the outer edge of town) you could easily update it from there and either start with 1604 and update the map inwards or you could start from downtown and update outwards along with extending it to austin (that stretch of highway being the highest speed limit in the united states) or even houston considering the size of the current sweden map

I've always like big maps, like srp, isle of a man, LAC, etc, where I can drive and not get boring for like an hour, but if it makes the experience bad and there's no more optimizations that helps, splitting sounds like the ideal move, I guess still big enough... Also would make it easier to one day have ai splines :p

Yeah splitting is totally fine with me.

I agree to split. Not just for our sake but I think with what you accomplished there shouldn't be a 'but' when people talk about your incredible work. "4R has created one of the most comprehensive and amazing maps BUT it suffers from stutter.". I don't think that's fair nor representative to the work you've put in nor will be people do the leg work to see that it's outside your control.

I voted split but can we still get the traffic planner files for hamburg to Sweden combined plz

You can do teleport at the end of the fist half to take you to the second half. You need 2 servers running but it works . We did it multiple times. On our end with other maps. We did like 4 teleports was crazy..

thats exactly what i think, too... Perfectly transistion would be a Ferry Port, but i guess thats not the middle of the map... sadge

Split the map and add high textured details on the roads/ buildings and 3d trees im tired of seeing 2d trees in so many maps

Detail is more important than distance IMO.

I think a great big congratulations you have made it border of x and click here (or similar) to enter y immigration, would be cool.

Is this still an issue with large maps? I thought the CSP double precision physics engine and origin shift options fixed these? Can't test on your maps at moment but I haven't come across this issue for years since it was introduced. Don't doubt you btw, just curious if still limited somehow with map size.

yes it seems like when you reach more then 160km from mid point of the map the calculation of player position is breaking. When getting close to this limit, its is getting shaky, when reaching the limit, you wil get 999 ping and disconnected from server...

Big maps are great, but if it gets glitchy it wont be worth it, rather have it split and just switch the map out/server for the “next part” it aint that big of a problem.

thats what i thought, I am happy you understand the issues here. For me it was just a big struggle because this rather ''shitty'' bug now destroying my initial plans xD but new plans are probably not worse at all

Tbh in servers people don’t really use the whole map either its either sweden to denmark/hamburg to denmark.

btw, on servers it might still be possible with option 2 to connect all 4 maps together through teleports. I have not done that so far but it should be possible.

I have done this and it works. I'm on your Discord as ciscoprtv let me know if u like info.

Split the map, I do like big maps and I will have my separate Riga map big as well, but in your case, its pretty big itself already and quite a distance to drive on the highway
