EXCLUSIVE: River Otter Keychain (#100)

Introducing the newest exclusive addition to our Realistic Keychain Series—the River Otter (#100).

This model comes in two versions: a standalone Toy Figure and a Keychain version with an integrated loop.

The Head
Choose between two head styles: Standard and Open Mouth. Both feature an internal ball joint, allowing for realistic side-to-side articulation.

The Tail
Inheriting the specialized tail mechanism from our Ferret (#68) model, the otter’s tail can be rotated 180 degrees and tucked back to serve as a kickstand, allowing the figure to stand on its hind legs.

The Body
We’ve included three distinct body poses:
V1: Relaxed (paws hanging loose)
V2: Prayer (paws pressed together)
V3: Fish-Holding (see the instructions below on how this pose works)

Fish Accessories
The otter comes with two fish options:
V1: Standard Fish
V2: "Dead" Fish (a humorous version with "X" eyes)


A pre-painted Bambu Studio .3mf file is included in the ZIP archive for easy multi-color printing.

Printing Tips & Recommendations

Bed Adhesion
The first tail segment (the joint connecting to the body) has a small footprint. To prevent the print from detaching or warping, we’ve included Brim Ears in the .3mf file. We highly recommend keeping these enabled for a successful print.

Color Swapping (5-Color Look on 4-Color Printers)
The "Open Mouth" version uses 5 colors. If you are using a standard 4-slot AMS/MMU, here is how we did it:

• Load Black to print the pupils.

• Once the pupils are done, manually swap the Black filament for Red to print the tongue.

• Once the tongue is finished, swap the Red back to Black.
  Alternative: To stay strictly within 4 colors without swapping, you can use the beige "undercoat" color for the eyes and teeth instead of white.
  
  

The Highlight: Magnetic Grip (V3 Body)
The V3 version features a magnetic "grip" so the otter can hold its catch.

This model has a flat surface on the chest to maximize contact area between the otter and the fish. On Plate 5 of the Bambu Studio file, you’ll find all four V3 variations with pre-configured hidden magnet slots.

• Our Setup: We used two 5x2mm neodymium disc magnets stacked, so the slots are sized at 5.1 x 4.2mm.

• Pro Tip: While we used these because we have them in bulk, larger magnets like 6x3mm, 6x4mm, or 7x3mm may provide an even stronger "snap."

• Customization: You can easily resize the slots in the .3mf file to fit your specific magnets. Just ensure that the "ceiling" of the slot is covered by at least 2–3 layers.

How to Insert the Magnets:

• Slice the model and add a Pause command at the layer where the slot begins to close.

• When the printer pauses, drop your magnets into the slots.

• Important: Make sure the magnets are seated perfectly flush and do not stick out, otherwise, the print head might hit them when resuming.

The Fish
On Plate 6, we’ve provided fish models with magnet slots. We placed magnets in both the head and the tail of the fish to allow for multiple holding poses.

In our example, the slots are open (visible), but you can modify them to be hidden in your slicer. Hidden magnets are a fantastic "wow factor" when showing off the model at craft fairs or in retail shops!
