Totally on board with the gradient, the colored shadow seems a bit superfluous, though maybe it'll grow on me? Really though, the sillies are about the quick laughs and the facial expressions.
I like the gradient. The subtle color adds a little something extra that is nice.

I really like both the gradient and the subtle colour. I would critique that perhaps the red is a little too bold, especially in the third frame.

Yea. I know that the sillies are supposed to be these super simple things, but I think the bit of extra polish that the gradient gives goes a long way.
