Always the pragmatist, Lucas.
Man, I can't see this backfiring at *all*... /s
I completely get where they're coming from, and I think this is a rational decision. I 100% would not have made this decision: IMO you either detonate it and end his life, or you follow through and remove the explosive for real. Mainly for moral/ethical reasons, but also practical ones: You're going to loose this potentially killer robot on the world with a built in way to take control of him; what's to stop someone else from doing the same thing you did and taking control back? Now you have a robot that's exactly as dangerous as before AND knows you VERY well. Having the explosive in just keeps him more dangerous.
Yeah, that, of course... but also... 'freeing' the robot by first lying to them and also being still able to kill them with a flip of a switch. Nice way to build a good relationship with another sentient being. Of course we all see where this is going, some time in the future, for some convoluted or not reason they will find out. Then, there are maaaaaany possible choices on the outcome, from utterly dramatic to hollywoodian happy ending :P
:)
