$1000 for a base-PS5-strength machine with no controller, or $1200 with one. At the original rumored $7-800 price point, the Steam Machine might have justified its existence to me. But adding in the AI RAMflation, I just don't even know who this is supposed to be for anymore.

Since you're on a roll with the price of game consoles and games, seems time for a comic about the $80 price tag for GTA 6 and $100 collector's edition making fun of how people will be unhappy about the price but buy it anyway. Edit after Jun 26 post: Thanks Tim!
512GB model: $1050 2TB model: $1350 Price to buy a 512GB M.2 SSD: $90-$100 Price to buy a 2TB M.2 SSD: $280-$320 If you buy a 2TB model, Valve's raising the price by $300, not $200... They're making you pay for / not crediting you for the 512GB SSD you aren't getting. :/ Frankly makes more sense to buy the 512GB model, buy your own larger SSD, then sell (or keep for use elsewhere) the 512GB SSD. Since you're paying for it in both models, you might as well actually have it.
And it doesn't even have that much RAM in it to begin with! When adding the manditory Companion Cube skin you're in for another $130,-. But then you have your own companion cube. :-D
