let's be honest. Raimi shot his wad 15-25 years ago. Nobody cares. It's dumb.

i really wish you wouldn't include AI generated stuff outside of the black void episodes that are explicitly about AI. i had to stop watching.

Please just don't even watch Starfleet Academy. You'll be happier, we'll be happier. Let's all just focus on other things.

The ending of this video is one of those RLM moments that is so funny and depressing that it will probably manifest itself in reality. "Remember that little joke we did on a Half in the Bag 10 years ago?...that is life now" sort of thing.

Despite it being a Raimi joint, I do think the performances are the standout of the movie, even more so than his signature flair and style. I’ll never say a bad thing about McAdams (who is one the best parts of my favorite film, ‘Mean Girls’), and Dylan O’Brien is my version of Kyle Gallner … even if the film around him is not great, he’s putting in the work. He delivered the performance(s) of the year in ‘Twinless ’ last year and hope he keeps going strong. Also hope McAdams does more zany stuff like this.

I'm with Mike on this. I have no issues with subtitles but the point is that movies and Anime in particular is a visual medium. If there is a ton of subs going on and I'm spending the majority of the movie with my focus on the bottom of the screen, I'm losing something by doing that. Especially on anime where the artwork is sometimes as important as the story and the dialog. So the end result is I may have to watch something 2-3 times to get all the information that is being conveyed in the visuals and the dialog.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your point (and you're, of course, entitled to watch things however you damn well please), a lot is lost in translation in dubs even now (even when they're not awful AI dubs). I learned the Japanese language in part because I was frustrated with the quality of translation work in the entertainment I enjoyed and there's a serious game of telephone that happens when people try to translate Japanese into English. You're getting an interpretation of an interpretation of an interpretation of a creator's narrative. I often compare it to James Bond. If you watched a Bond movie in a foreign language, sure you might get a crude understanding of what his character is saying (minus cultural in-jokes, plays-on-word and potentially even his characteristic double entendres) but you also lose a lot of the idiosyncracies of the performance. Subtitles you still very well may lose some of the cultural specifics (depending on the quality of the translation house) but you can at least hear the choices that were made by the original actor being directed by the original voice director rather than someone who doesn't speak the language's interpretation of the translator's interpretation of the script.

Easily the best part of this video is Mike’s Obi Wan impression lol

Oh, before I forget it. Might be nothing new, but I recently watched Rumble Fish, the 1983 Coppola movie, and when the main characters walk along a cinema, the sign says "Debbie Does Dallas," which is a pornographic movie and I immediately was reminded of "Debbie Does Demons." Did the first inspire the latter? No idea, but it seems possible.

I always appreciated that all of your movie review shows feel like a conversation, and that the pacing always feels right when it builds up or releases tension, and so the energy always feels right. And so I will also always appreciate that you don't use AI.

After I bought my ticket I found out that this also is very randomly released in 3D. Fits the vibe as a cute party movie. My issue with the last part of the movie was that I disliked them both. There’s no hero’s in upper management I guess. So who to root for?

Regarding the AI mouths in Vincent. I think it’s another great example of AI being bad at something we were told it would be amazing at. The mouths still don’t really match the voices and the audio seems just as out of sync as it would with regular dubbing. When you speak, your whole jar moves as well as the lips. Also, your head (and body for hat matter) moves and bobs to emphasize words. That’s never going to fully line up when changing from one language to another, so unless they get to a place where they’re using AI to replace the entire head and change the timing of the performance, AI lots sync is never gonna work. But at least they burned down a half a forest and guzzled a small towns worth of water to do it!

Being from a country with a long tadition of dubbing movies I can say, that never once in my life have I felt the mouth of any actor not being in sync with the words that are spoken to be bothersome in the slightest, so I don't really see why you would need to "fix" that issue with AI...

I saw this on Friday in a Dolby Cinema. Sam Raimi back in form! My favorite part was a screaming head (not a spoiler but this makes more sense after seeing the movie).
