Blackadder II - S2E3 'Potato'

‘Ah yes this is very familiar” 🤣🤣
There was a bit of tension between Tom Baker and Rowan Atkinson in this episode. During rehearsals, Tom was playing Redbeard Rum as he does in the episode, but Rowan took him to one side and told him to stop because no one will find it funny. So the next time they did it, he had toned it down considerably, and the director had to ask if there was something wrong and when Baker told him the reason, he just said, ‘Yeah, Rowan doesn’t like it when other people are funnier than him. Keep doing it how you did before because it is funny’.
The Great Tom Baker
It’s soooooo good!! one of my go-to’s when there’s bugger all on I think it might be money next which is my favourite episode!!!
Sir Rather-a-wally-Raleigh!
🎶Sir Francis and Sir Walter had discovered new worlds and new nations. And though Blackadder thought them mad, he tried his hand in navigation. Blackadder! Blackadder! He saw the ocean's foam. Blackadder! Blackadder! He should've stayed at home. Blackadder! Blackadder! He heard the new world's call! Blackadder! Blackadder! Discovered bugger-all!🎶
US comedian Bob Newhart specialised in one-sided telephone conversations. One of his most famous ones is this one with Sir Walter Raleigh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4ZLb4afIJw
Oh I'd forgotten that! Brilliant stuff.
Great Tom Baker. Another Doctor Who was in an episode of Still Game. Sylvester McCoy. He played the hermit who came out of his house for the first time in years.
THIS IS A WOMAN'S REACTION MY LORD!
You get a history lesson for free with Blackadder.
I think that some of the historical context is lost on them at present, but hopefully they'll pick it up. Mike now realises that Elizabeth 1st was the British monarch. Of course, they didn't study British History at school though some of this and subsequent series overlaps with American history, including Sir Walter Raleigh.
Raleigh, the State capital of North Carolina was named after Sir Walter Raleigh.
Just for some context on the potato's. The potato was originaly brought to the Britain from North America in 1586 by none other than the actual Sir Walter Raleigh.
Although that story only appeared 100 years after he died. It was probably the Spanish bringing them to Europe from South America, but we used the story as patriotic PR because the Spanish were our enemy.
Still a bit cringy slap-stick type humour, but is a classic.
15:56 Someone's got a filthy mind! 😉🤣✌️
There’s a real story about Sir Walter Raleigh gifting a potato to Queen Elizabeth, although likely false.
Didn't Sir Walter Raleigh get executed in the last episode?.
No, this was Sir Walter Riley, hence the potatoes
After Seven years of restraint playing the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker could finally let himself loose
I thought he was brilliant as guest host on Have I Got News For You! 👍💯😉🤣 He also said "Arrghh!" quite a lot on there too! 👍💯🤣🤣 I remember comedian Chris Addison saying to Tom "Will you stop doing that?!" 😉🤣
Did Mike upload Kill Tony this morning 😉
5:23 The child chanting "Sour puss grumpy face" was also Miranda Richardson! 👍💯😉🤣 I thought the same squeak might have been a giveaway! 😉🤣
I was looking forward to your introduction to Tom Baker! Legend! 👍💯😉🤣
Damn, I just realized it was Doctor Who
It's Blackadder Tuesday! Yes!
