"What a Crank! Good Lord!"

The book in particular was R. Crumb's new comic "Tales of Paranoia" which is special only because it's R. Crumb's first new comic in 20-odd years. The actual meat of the book is just libertarian crank conspiracies about being anti-vax, deep state job reporting, and comes to the same conclusion most have, that it's all Money + Power corrupting everything, but quotes RFK as an amazing mind worth getting info from (he's not).

Almost all this shit in Crumb's book feels like it's giving unknowable power to fast-talking grifters and that's too dumb for me to give any credence to and find it kinda shocking no one else who was publishing this thought to give any pause in maybe not putting this out? Just cause it's R Crumb and he's a big comic name, tho, he's got the red carpet rolled out for it. Gives me the ick after reading it. What do I know? I didn't have to buy it, yet here I am. Complaining!

I also found it interesting he Not Once mentioned anything about Epstein or the pretty obviously proven conspiracy within all that. Guess that wasn't his cup of tea?

no! he even says so that his libido is basically gone. the only nice thing in it was the last “dirty laundry” strip with aileen before she passed.

oh god ya i saw that came out and was like whew boy.....grandpa Crumb go back to bed..... Fantagraphics though? they should've known better??? im surprised they gave in to easy money while knowing its peddling terrible libertarian crap. (I also love /s when people focus on "corruption!!!!" as the problem and not that capitalism working as intended just leads to where we are now)

Funny how conspiracy theorists are never interested in actual, proven conspiracies.

Not super surprising that he went crank, but I am surprised Fantagraphics is marketing it all like "he's diving deep and just asking questions!" Boooo!

Had a similar experience picking up Steve Ditko's latter day stuff. Mind you he was always a heavy Ayn Rand Objectivist follower (completely ignoring Rand's own contradictions and when she tried to shut down Objectivism). In order to get those new issues though, you had to back his kickstarter through Robin Snyder's Newsletter. I'm not sure if the newsletter was a true collaboration or just all Snyder but while I could handle ignoring Ditko's preachiness about his suspicions of the state and organized religion and his absolute faith in capital C Capitalism, the editorials in the newsletter began borrowing some blatant racist talking points about how wEsTeRn CiViLiZaTiOn BuIlDs and all others seek to drag it down and similar bullshit. Ditko died in 2018 and last I saw, Snyder's still putting out reprints of his work, something Ditko himself decried as a practice
