update on Serenity movie

hi friends!

i just thought i'd make a post here since i keep getting questions across the board about serenity and when i will be watching it and instead of answering everywhere hopefully this post will be visible and get the word across.

i was unfortunately spoiled on deaths in the movie in my youtube comments before my moderators were able to see it and delete it.

every movie i've watched for the first time i've gone in blind with no idea of what happens. reading these spoilers really has affected my motivation to watch it for the current time because as im sure you all can imagine, it spoils the experience of a first time watch. i am not saying no to the movie forever, but i do want to make clear i really can't see myself watching this movie for the foreseeable future. it's just something i want to get over so that when i do watch it, i can fully enjoy it rather than thinking of how someone spoiled it.

i hope yall understand, and i am sorry to disappoint! unfortunately youtube comments can be awful sometimes, and in this instance i feel it prevents my enjoyment of it for the time being. again, not a no forever, but i really don't know when i will get around to it so wanted to be transparent if you are here waiting for that, i cannot guarantee a timeline.

thank you!

Drag. It's worth it, even spoiled, as Barry states below. What if we offered a donation to help peak your interest? If such were possible, let me know. You have a unique way about you. Love to see it.

That's unfortunate. I didn't subscribe specifically for your Firefly/Serenity reaction but it is one of my staple series to watch. I hate that it has been spoiled for you and that we've been robbed of your unspoiled reaction but that can happen when you read the unfiltered comments. I can tell you this; I've watched this series +movie a dozen times and I'll easily watch it a dozen more. Spoilers or not, I think you will enjoy and appreciate the movie. I would love to watch it with you.

tahts sad, but be assured the deaths are not rly importent for teh whole story and knowing about them wont effect the movie much

yeah i've had some things like in videogames spoiled for me but it's more about the journey to it, just need some time for now

I’m not too sure how to feel about this announcement: on the one hand I empathise with the commenter situation, on the other I wonder why the reaction was delayed originally? If Emme was spoiled during her original reaction series why only tell us now, after waiting months?? The twists have definitely been spoiled and maybe time heals all wounds, I just think it should have been recorded as part of the original series for this exact reason. Not sure how anyone avoids spoilers while reading comments…

It's because I am and was involved in other movie series, and promised other movies before I even started Firefly. This also happened only a couple weeks ago, so I told you guys fairly quick. I don't really see the productivity in a should've/could've/would've comment/critique.

aaargh, i hate the inconsiderate people who spoil stuff in the comments. what is wrong with people?

Also, I keep at notes app with things I think of for future episodes. For example, if something happens in an episode of doctor who you just watched but it will be relevant later and I don't want to drop even a crumb, I'll write down my thoughts in the notes app and can include them in a future comment when every relevant event has unfolded. It helps me to release my pent up thoughts in a contained way while also knowing my words will eventually be used. Kind of like a time-delayed comment lol. I recommend that strategy for anyone else with a mind that reels overtime after watching TV.

i appreciate you doing that for me, that's a lot of consideration!

That sucks! Literally the exact same thing happened to me. A death was spoiled and it took me like 2 years before I felt inclined to watch Serenity. There's nothing like a careless spoiler to deflate enthusiasm. It's the reason I still haven't seen the Shining, despite having read the book it's based on. Someone said, "oh, it's crazy when X is revealed" when I told them I was literally in the middle of the book. I said, "what the heck!! spoilers!!" and he said, "you can't really say spoilers when it's such an old movie." I mean come on dude, you know it's different since I just told you I'm in the middle of experiencing it for the first time. I intended to see the movie after but I was still kind of bitter so I just finished the book and called it a day. My college friend's boyfriend spoiled a major character death in Game of Thrones to be funny and it forever ruined my opinion of him. I still hold it against my cousin (in a mostly-joking way all these years later) that he spoiled a Harry Potter books death for me and that was THREE DAYS after it was released and I was only halfway through. I take spoilers incredibly seriously, including "omg, episode X is so crazy" or "you're going to sob so hard by the end of the show" or if a seemingly one-time character or actor will show up again later. Just let reactors react for goodness sake. Here are my suggestions for nonspoiler things to talk about but anyone can correct me if they disagree: how you Emme reacted to a scene, how you (viewer) reacted to a scene, how you (viewer) reacted to your (Emme) reaction, acting compliments/criticism, book differences up to this point but not ahead of it provided you do an all caps books spoiler alert and hide it down below the "see more," character journeys so far with no hint to their full arc, episode specific analysis, behind the scenes info, things you wish the episode had done differently or alternative plot ideas purely looking backwards from the current point, information on alt works by actors/writers/directors etc. as fun fact or relevant discussion but not as a hint, show themes thus far, character relationships thus far, and, "when I watched this for the first time, I thought/felt X which is the same as/different to what you think/felt. I won't say if either or neither of us was right." If any viewers feel starved for conversation, there are active subreddits for almost every show out there. Make a post with the spoiler tag and you'll probably get the discussion you're looking for!

Bummer. I would like to see a reaction, but I also think you should watch what you want to watch. Reactions are better when the viewer is invested.

I hate it when someone spoils a movie for a reactor. It's always best when a reaction is totally blind. It even irritates me when someone says something that just gives a hint, like 'you're going to need tissues' or 'you won't believe the ending'. Darn it! Just let a reactor react to it naturally.

I understand your arguments Eme and it is 100% up to you what you react to and when!

Sucks that you’ve been spoiled. That’s always the worse

I don't watch it but that's so frustrating. Was it a deliberate spoil or one of those people who likes to think they're being clever in their comments? Sorry to you and the FF fans though

E
Emme · June 10, 2024

Honestly no idea. It was like “watch the movie so you find out how x dies”???? It was very odd because they were telling me to watch the movie but spoiling it so not sure if it was an intentional troll or someone who couldnt hold their tongue

I'm not a "Firefly" fan, but that sucks, I'm sorry that happened to you
