Steam + Rework, Update #13 😿
Heya,
Before I get into the progress, first some good and bad news.
The bad:
You may have heard/read online somewhere that Microsoft axed 9100+ jobs/people. I was unfortunately part of that, and my studio instantly lost their funding overnight . They're doing everything in their power to find another publisher a.s.a.p, but these things take time and that won't be happening any time soon. The entire studio will be made redundant. Sadly, I'll be losing my main income and I'll only have this project left. It's only just enough to pay for my power bill at the moment and won't be able to survive in the long run. I need to cover rent, food and software licenses, so depending on what happens within the next few months, I'll likely have to go job hunting. When it comes to that, I won't be able to continue AO for a while, as that'll likely take up all the time I have. I've been at the company for about 5 years, so it's been a long time since I had to go hunting for work. The games industry has also changed a lot in the last few years, with about a 100k people in total having lost their jobs due to studios being closed down and looking for work. Though I have a massive amount of experience on my side, it's still going to be difficult. But, more on that in the next few months when I have more info and exact data.
The good:
Having been at the company for quite a few years, entitles me to a redundancy package. I don't yet know what that's going to be, but it should be pretty decent. I'm hoping it'll be enough to carry me and my bills for a few months, until I'm ready to launch on Steam. If Steam does well enough, I may be able to carry on for a while longer. I doubt it will, but we'll see. The good news really is that I now have a lot time I can spend on this, so it should be getting done much faster!
Progress:
The party scenes are as good as done, bar a couple of things to tie it up. I'll be tackling a bunch of the smaller scenes in the next couple of weeks. They'll likely be done much quicker now, and may even dip early into the gym scenes and get it done a.s.a.p.
I hope everyone had a much better week than I had, it's been absolute hell for me. Losing your job is no joke, especially one I actually cared about. 😭
All the best and many thanks for your support,
Ezy ❤️

The truth is, I did not hear anything about this, but I do not watch the news. It is always too depressing. The corporate people who make these kind of decisions pay no attention to individuals, only to numbers that they perceive to be correct. Obviously they payed NO attention to the fact that you are the best developer in the industry. Sadly, in the long term, you cannot count on much anymore. In the modern corporate world, even having a job for 5 years becomes an anomaly. I have been where you are and it sucks, and now the world has changed so much, I would not even know where to start for job hunting.
That's unfortunate, sorry to hear you're going through this. I wish you the best on your job hunting, game dev, and the Steam release as well!
Good luck, I hope everything ends well
Sorry to hear about your job. I hope everything works out. 🤞
Shit man that's unfortunate. I hope you find something soon
Oh shit. Sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for you in both the job hunt and Steam release.
