The Grey Dream - Status Update

Hello everyone,

For the first time, I (Kagan) am writing this status update instead of Zyanid. I thought it would be more appropriate to break our ongoing silence regarding TGD (The Grey Dream) and provide this information directly myself.

I can guess that there are some concerns and theories within the community that TGD will be abandoned or shift in different directions. Let me state right from the beginning: TGD will be finished as a 10 episode series, exactly as we planned on day one. There is absolutely no change to this plan.

Why Aren't We Fixing Our Past Mistakes?

Things were very different back when TGD was first planned. We were much more amateur then, and we literally learned game development on the go while making this project. We are aware of our mistakes, shortcomings, and errors in the past episodes. Believe me, we criticize these mistakes among ourselves much more harshly than you do. We still sometimes rack our brains, wondering, "Should we go back and fix these mistakes?" However, trying to fix the past practically means making a brand new game from scratch. We are staying away from this idea because it would trap us in an endless, vicious development cycle. We will embrace TGD with its good and bad sides, make its 2nd season as planned, and conclude the story properly.

Why Did the Greyvale Process Affect TGD?

I also want to touch upon what has been happening in the background. Although Greyvale's production process seemed to take a year from the outside, the rendering aspect was completed in about 4-5 months (and I believe I can shorten this time even further in the future). We announced Greyvale at the beginning of 2025, prepared its first 500 scenes, then paused the project to focus entirely on TGD and released two episodes. Afterwards, at the end of the summer, we returned to Greyvale and completed the project.

Greyvale's testing processes, revisions, and especially the initial coding phase took much longer than we expected (you can see this painful process by looking at the dates of our past status updates). Fortunately, we have now moved past this difficult infrastructure phase; since we have established our system, our future updates will be much faster.

What is Our Plan for TGD Season 2?

TGD's scale in terms of rendering and updates has never been, and will never be, as massive as Greyvale's. We plan to release updates by maintaining our standards from previous episodes and finish the 2nd season.

So, have we started working on TGD? We have already started laying the groundwork for the first scene, and we are currently planning the remaining scenes. For a very long time, we lived and breathed nothing but TGD, and this genuinely exhausted us mentally. To prevent burnout and get a breath of fresh air, we needed to take a little break and focus on a new project.

Right now, we are in the planning phase for TGD's 2nd season. We will most likely reach the finale with 4 main episodes + 1 interlude episode. It would be wrong to give an exact date right now, but you can rest assured that we will not drag out the process unnecessarily. We will share all the details with you in the first Status Update we publish once we fully begin production.

Currently, we have 4 very powerful workstations, and we are receiving professional freelance support for story and writing (you might have noticed this from Greyvale's writing quality).
