1.20.77.13 Released

This release was primarily created in order to support the Steam release of Virt-A-Mate + vamX announced here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/virt-mate-1-x-on-75307423

Since we had to make changes to VaM, we decided to take this opportunity to also include some other minor features and tweaks, including a nice speed boost to json file save and loading. Full release notes below:

Features:

  • Added Package Downloader - a new system that allows copy/paste of a resource URL from external browser or entering a specific var package name into an input box to find and download that resource or package and all its dependencies in an easy manner. Can be used as alternative to in-game Hub browser for getting Hub content. There is a new toolbar item to open this system.

  • Plugins - added new Alert system with callbacks which allows plugin to prompt user for OK or OK/Cancel style popup with a message. public void Alert(string alertMessage, UnityAction okAlertCallback, DisplayUIChoice displayUIChoice = DisplayUIChoice.Auto); public void Alert(string alertMessage, UnityAction okAlertCallback, UnityAction cancelAlertCallback, DisplayUIChoice displayUIChoice = DisplayUIChoice.Auto);

Tweaks:

  • Improved load and save performance with large json files.  An example 5-minute long mocap scene improved save and load times by 40%. This fix will enable saving and restoring very long data fields in an efficient manner which will allow plugins to encode binary data into json files without a huge performance hit. Thank you to community legend and superstar AcidBubbles for the suggestion and sample code for the fix!

  • Improved Hub opt-in agreement system

  • Changes to meet requirements from Valve for release of vamX  + VaM product on Steam - Steam version removes all promotional links since they are not allowed. Paid category type also had to be removed from Hub browser. Reddit and other specific web site links that promoted paid content in any way also had to be removed. Basically Valve doesn’t want any paid content in an application unless that paid content is on Steam so they can get their (large) cut of the proceeds.

  • Plugins - added two new public methods to FileManagerSecure to allow plugins to check if packages exist: public static bool  PackageExists(string packageUid); public static int GetPackageVersion(string  packageUid);

  • Plugins - added two new public methods to MVRPluginManager to allow reloading or removing other plugins: public void  ReloadPluginWithUID(string uid); public void RemovePluginWithUID(string uid);

  • Minor security enhancements

Yes unfortunately Valve removed it without much of an explanation. https://sxvr.com/steam/

Where can I find the dependencies not hosted on hub?

M
MeshedVR · December 21, 2022

Most likely those are paid content that are hosted on a creator's Patreon. You will have to look at the creator name (on the package name itself) and do a search. Sometimes the resource that uses one of these non-hub hosted packages explains how to get the dependencies in the resource overview page for that resource.

How do I permanently hide the annoying error popup messages?

M
MeshedVR · December 18, 2022

There is no way to hide error popups. It would be best to look at the errors and try to fix them. Most likely you are missing packages that the content you are loading depends on. You can open Package Manager and use the Scan Hub For Missing Dependencies button at bottom. If that doesn't fix the issue, you can browse through the packages list in here and look for red packages. Those indicate they are broken due to missing dependencies. I would remove them as the content probably won't work correctly if the dependencies are missing. Creator's often make packages that require specific things to be downloaded separately that are not on the Hub. You should look at the install notes the original creator provided to see if those can be fixed or not.

VaM-X is what introduced me to VaM so if making it available on Steam brings more users into the community I'm all for that. Virt-A-Mate really is an amazing program or game or whatever you call it and has given me lots of pleasure. I only used VaM-X for a few weeks before becoming a Patreon subscriber here and using the native version of VaM, but for noobs or people just getting into adult CGI, VaM-X on Steam should be popular.

I've just stopped using Patreon because the first time I needed to get some support (issue logging in from my gaming machine) I found that they basically have no support (never got back to me). That's not an outfit I will trust with a credit card... so having the Steam version is timely.

this game runs way better with the latest update and not using steam at all. i just stopped using the steam version (bastards) and am closing my steam account, not before ripping them a new on while requesting a refund (id rather support you guys directly here, and Vamx.. subbed to both) along with a bunch of creators who have awesome content. i dont think (maybe im wrong) that people mind paying for awesome. at least i dont. what i dont like is being charged for bullshit thats not worth the text its written in. let alone my money, and that seems to be steam now so .. fuck em. and you guys are awsome. but to the point, a scene i created that was unplayable basically on any setting other then the very lowest, i just ran at normal specs with no using give me fps and was fine, having the directory in the root drive makes a difference i think. i have decent system, rtx 2070 super, 32 g ram, i7.. but something was causing massive fps drops unnecessarily apparently because now that its totally detached from steam it runs great.

I'm a bit shocked by the 'removed paid category from hub browser' and the like to be honest, is this going to be the start of the end of professional content?

M
MeshedVR · December 6, 2022

The version of 1.X you get here with any of the keys here still has the paid category and promotional links. The Steam version uses a special key that disables these features because Valve does not allow them. The Hub itself has not changed. Just the in-game browser and other links.

The steam Version looks great guys! Only I wonder will we ever get cool features like that here? I don't want the steam version. I don't like the idea of being tracked.

M
MeshedVR · December 3, 2022

You can get exactly what Steam has by getting latest version of VaM 1.X here and subscribe to the vamX Patreon project to get the addon. I provided a link to vamX's Patreon project in the other post I made on same day as this one. The Steam version provides another way to get both for people who don't want to use Patreon or a subscription model or who would have otherwise never found either of this projects. The Steam product will not include 2.X. Consider 2.X as being VaM2, a separate, follow-on game.

Run VaM_Updater.exe in your VAM folder

SamanthaJ · December 1, 2022

Hope you'll keep the non-Steam version for 1.x and 2.x. Don't really want Valve tracking my VaM usage ;)

M
MeshedVR · December 1, 2022

Patreon versions of 1.X and 2.X will still be here and be full featured.

Steam version just sounds nerfed asically...along with having to run Steam in the background during the game which for sure adds to a performance hit...better to go through patreon imo. Glad the team gets a chance to get far more exposure though...hopefully certain types dont go a bit crazy complaining about certain scenes lol

Congratulations! So, no paid items from vamhub in this version? Sound not so good for creators 🤔

Idc honestly paid content was 99% of user content which is ridiculous. Stopped using vam because of it
