A Better Way to Make Comics

Hey everyone!

Over the past few years, I've learned a lot about making comics. One thing became very clear:

The way I've been creating stories isn't the most efficient anymore.

It works, but it also creates a lot of unnecessary work behind the scenes.

So from now on, I'm changing my production pipeline.

I wanted to share what that means and why I think it's going to make the comics even better.

How I Used to Work

Most of my comics started with a simple idea.

Something like:

"What if these two characters met under these circumstances?"

Then I would start building the story while producing the pages.

As I worked, new ideas kept appearing.

That usually looked something like this:

Idea

↓

A better idea

↓

A new dialogue

↓

A better scene

↓

A new character interaction

↓

A different ending

↓

Another new idea...

↓

700 pages later... xD

The creative process was fun because the story evolved naturally.

But there was a downside.

Every new idea affected everything that came before it.

Sometimes I had to redesign scenes.

Sometimes I rewrote dialogue.

Sometimes I changed the pacing halfway through.

And every change meant more production time.

The Problem

Creating while producing sounds creative...

But it's actually very inefficient.

Instead of spending my energy making beautiful pages, I was constantly making creative decisions.

Imagine building a house while still deciding where the rooms should be.

It works...

But it slows everything down.

How Professional Studios Work

Movies.

Animation.

Manga.

Comics.

Games.

Almost all professional productions follow the same philosophy:

Plan first. Execute second.

Instead of discovering the story while drawing, they build the entire blueprint beforehand.

Only after the blueprint is finished does production begin.

That's exactly the workflow I'm adopting.

My New Production Pipeline

Every comic will now go through a structured planning phase before I start rendering pages.

It will look something like this:

Idea

↓

Story Premise

↓

Full Story Outline

↓

Chapter Breakdown

↓

Scene Breakdown

↓

Story Beats

↓

Thumbnails

↓

Production

↓

Final Polish

↓

Release

By the time I begin creating pages, the entire story is already mapped out.

That means production becomes execution instead of improvisation.

Every Scene Will Have a Purpose

Instead of writing:

Scene 4

I'll define something much more important.

Scene 4

Location:

Apartment

Length:

5 pages

Purpose:

Show that the characters are beginning to have some tension between each other.

Emotional Progression:

Awkward

↓

Comfortable

↓

Romantic

Now every page serves a clear purpose.

If something doesn't support that purpose...

It doesn't belong in the scene.

Why This Is Better

This doesn't make the comics less creative.

Quite the opposite.

It lets me spend my creative energy where it matters most.

Instead of solving story problems while rendering pages, I solve them before production even begins.

That means:

• Better pacing

• More consistent storytelling

• Stronger emotional moments

• Fewer unnecessary scenes

• Less rewriting

• Less production downtime

• More polished final comics

What This Means For You

For you, the experience should simply feel better.

The stories should flow more naturally.

Characters will have clearer emotional arcs.

Romantic moments will build more smoothly.

The pacing should feel tighter from beginning to end.

And because I'll spend less time reworking pages, I'll be able to dedicate more time to improving the artwork, posing, lighting, expressions, and overall presentation.

Looking Ahead

This is one of the biggest workflow changes I've ever made.

I'm excited because I believe it will improve not only the quality of each comic, but also the consistency of future releases.

Thank you for supporting my work and thank you for your patience.

Every comic teaches me something new, and your support allows me to keep improving, not just as an artist, but as a storyteller.

I can't wait to show you what's coming next. ❤️

Please give me feedback on what you guys think of it! It is very important to me :)

I think this is solid. I am happy to see you experimenting with new ways to keep productive, and as long as you are doing well while making comics, I think it will all work out. I will still adore your art style regardless of the journey.

If something can get you excited like this I am all for it! Looking at how others do things is a great way to help improve yourself, take the positives and apply them to how you do it. I look forward to future projects!

I think this is a good idea. Will this strategy take place before the next Lara Croft comic?

Yes! It will take place now :)
