Chapter 10 weekly status report (11)

I'm fine with the delay - at the end of the day, I physically and mentally cannot do what you do and I am in no position to judge. I've waited 8 years so far for Dragon Age 4, I am clearly patient enough to wait for ORS.

I don't mind waiting as long as the quality of the end product is better. Just stop going back and redoing the same story.

Who Cares about delays it just means it'll be perfect

I'm a little disappointed with the increasing delays to each update. It is starting to feel like a grift and following the similar pattern of other adult game developers, where every update is delayed longer than the last. Chapter 9 was released in November...we are getting close to 1 update a year :(

To fill the gap you could provide sneak peeks or previews to your patrons. More constant communication would probably make people be more understanding with the longer dev time

Yeah, the Patreon-site is quite a charm, considering it is the only added value they earn their money with. But I hate sending a post with enter even more :D . Staying away from social media is a good think :) . I like it that you are not that obsessed with them. New game mechanics? You got me curious and happily looking forward to see what nice idea you got this time. I really loved the "pick the best stupid answer"-game you added before. I enjoyed every of the former chapters, but if the hard "Eva approves"-test of this chapter is positive this time - might it be possible to enjoy this chapter even more?! Stay healthy and take your time :) .

I'm curious, those of you who would wait a long time for a chapter. How long would you wait? Would you wait a year? Two years? 5? I am sure that this type of statement has realistic limitations. I think its good that Eva has delegated at least some of the work but it's probable that there is a roadblock unseen by us that keeps more work from being delegated. I am sure Eva will figure it out.

Ambitious projects like ORS feel like they should have a pretty good sized dev team in order to release chapters in a timely manner. Looking at it in terms of possible outcomes, it's understandable why this might be overwhelming for one person with a couple of delegated roles for help. What are the negative aspects of expanding the team?

How long would you expect it to take to finish Lena’s part? As I wrote in my comment on your last post, I feel like we are not looking at the bigger picture, which is that the development time has increased enormously, and that the tendency is that the chapters are taking longer to release, not shorter. If this makes you feel pressured and anxious, then what is there to suggest that you will feel any different come next chapter, if you don’t manage to significantly reduce the development time? What is there to suggest that the update frequency will change in any way, so that we are not looking at a mere two chapters per year? As long as these facts remain, I don’t see how anything will improve. Personally, I think a chapter every six months is quite catastrophic, and you don’t seem to be particularly happy with it either. Yet still, I’m seeing no efforts dedicated to changing this fact. That is why the poll that you held seems completely pointless now, because the end result ended up being “never mind, carry on as you were”, even though the way things were going appeared to be seriously unfortunate for both you and us. Again, I believe that the core issue is not the release of this specific chapter, or that you haven’t released new content for a while at this current moment. It is that everything suggests that the development time, in general, appears to be getting unmanageable, which is not sustainable in the long run. This is why I think it would appropriate for you to consider how you could alter your approach so that the development times is brought back to more normal levels. Otherwise, I would implore you to communicate very clearly that the new standard is one chapter every five to six months, so that no one expects anything different and so that you don’t have to deal with anxiety when you don’t release something for three months.

Don't feel pressured to release the chapter until it's done or 90% done for the alpha. We'll all be here waiting for the update. I'm guessing this mystery character is Ash or Eva from GGGB. If I'm a betting man, I'd say Gillain with a new look. I don't know if you'll answer this but are you still open to doing shout-outs for other devs? I know one who could really use the support.

Take your time. Literally this and GGGB are the best AVNs I've ever played.

I'm betting on Gillian and Ashley. Gill will bring some drama to Ian's life (to mirror somewhat Lena's) and Ash will appear to help Lena fight Seymour's menace. Stay strong and healthy.

I hope the pressures of releasing content doesn't get to you too badly! Honestly, your content thus far is enough for me to have faith in your work and progress that I don't mind waiting long periods of times between each chapter. Not everyone shares the same mindset as I do, but I think they'll live and will come back to play once it releases. That being said, oh man new characters?! I'm thinking that teaser might be Eva from GGGB. Good luck with the rest of chapter 10!

The danger now becomes that corners will (quite understandably) be cut. Which would be a shame. For my part i hope however much devtime is needed 'to do it properly' is taken. But there's already people here advocating for it to come out as fast as possible. And as each update is completed the subsequent ones tend to become more complex and laborious. Pressures always mounting. It was a rather ambitious decision to go for a dual protagonist game, and this is unfortunately some of the potential resultant drawback to that choice. It's really two seperate VNs with some crossover. That's a daunting task for pretty much anyone. I'm a bit skeptical, but here's hoping Eva can successfully negotiate the task at hand without too much sacrifice. Either from the project or her own sanity and well being.

Tbf if you feel like you need to (whether it be in the future or with this chapter) do what you feel is best for you and the development, if that means releasing it in parts then so be it, dont get me wrong i do feel like the chapters are better as a whole but if its giving you anxiety and pressure because you feel your making people wait then i feel its best to do what you feel is best for you and the game, i can always wait for Lena's chapter anyway :)

Dear Eva, please update the game before one year anniversary since last chapter update. Don't take your time, just update it before......remember remember, the 10th of November - thanks!

My expectations just got even higher. ;) With how the vote ended, it’s fair that the chapter will be released in full after both parts are done. But if you want to release more often also for your own sake, I think you should seriously consider that either way for the next chapter, if its structure allows it. I think it would be easier to accept if it’s something that’s made clear from the start, rather than as a surprising and sudden announcement as it was this time.

Will be interesting to see if the odd 20% that got fucked over will decide to vote with their wallet and cancel their support.. I'm guessing not though.. a very sad turn of events no less
