Behind the Scenes (Chapter 13.3)

Today I’m sharing some behind-the-scenes content from the making of the scenes for the latest chapter. I’ve shown you the storyboards I use to visualize and structure the scenes before, and they keep getting more complex over time.

At first, I didn’t really need to use this method, only for very specific situations, but as I’ve progressed in developing visual novels, it’s become an essential step in my creative process. One of the key turning points in this process was when I started reusing illustrations from previous scenes. With just a few adjustments and the right context in the writing, they’ve allowed me to enrich scenes more effectively. When you already have multiple illustrations of characters in similar poses or settings, it’s much more efficient to repurpose an image and dedicate more production time to creating fresh artwork that explores new directions.
That’s also why storyboards have become increasingly important: to help me innovate and improve each scene.

At first, writing these scenes was fairly straightforward. But after a game and a half under my belt and nearly a hundred scenes written, it’s hard not to feel like I’m repeating myself, after all, there are only so many actions that can take place in this kind of context!
On top of that, it’s important to me that the scenes feel interactive and reflect narrative development in the characters’ relationships. Their intimate interactions should shift and evolve over time, serving as a core storytelling element, because, at its heart, this is an erotic story.

All of this, combined with the time and effort it takes to create each new illustration, has made it increasingly important to carefully choose which images to create from scratch, which ones to reuse to fill gaps or add beats, and how to sequence the scene so it feels fluid, natural, fresh, and interactive. I often have to go through several iterations of the same scene before settling on a final structure, and even then, the final result usually ends up drifting a bit from the original plan. Some scenes have been a real headache, and it’s taking me longer and longer to figure out the best way to approach each new one… but honestly, even after doing so many, I feel like they’re turning out better and better.

What about you? Which scenes have stood out the most for you, felt the most engaging or memorable? And what kind of behind-the-scenes content would you like to see next, if any? Let me know in the comments!

Probably a little late to comment, but thanks for the look into your planning. I was short on time in the past and wantet to take my time to read, understand and answer. Very interesting to see how much you make dependable on the stats like charisma, power, ... . If I could wish for one more topic, you could walk us through one scene and tell us, why you chose those perspectives, those compositions or those triggers and guards for decision. Of course, there are only a few different ways an explicit scene will take place. But you have to consider that we are playing the game over years (on the first takes). So if there was a similar scene in chapter 3, we won't remember in chapter 12. Also, in real life, there is the same problem. The first night with a new girl is unpretenced, the next weeks will be filled with first experiences, but then, repetition comes. And still, it can be fun. With your game, most of the fun does come from the story, though. So even if the scene is almost the same, the story sourrounding it will make a big difference. Ian has sex with Allison: Is he in love with her? Is he just fucking her? Is he cheating on Lena with her? Is he trying to forget Lena? In all variations, the penetration will feel very different - especially with your wonderful text underlining the story.

The first scene with Cindy and Ian in the alley stands out because of the tension and art. The scenes with Lena, Jeremy, and Marcel also stand out for the same reasons, plus the art always looks pretty fantastic. As far as bts any stuff that includes potential previews of future content would be nice or maybe stuff that got scrapped.

It's fascinating how complex the game is; no other adult game can compete with it. First of all, all the scenes have their charm and are special. I was very pleasantly surprised by Louise's scene; she had never a big impact on me, but the scene was very well done. I'm a big fan of Ian & Lena/Cindy/Alison, which means that in the end, the Alison & Cindy scenes in the new chapter were my highlights. However, my favorite scene so far is when *Holly makes her move*. ⚜️

Really hope the narrative development in the characters’ relationships is due for some major gangbanging. That will freshen things up :))

Probably because it is fresh in my mind with the new release, but I really enjoyed LouisexIan (romantic). At first I didn’t care for Louise, but I am coming around to her. I really enjoyed the Emma scenes, except maybe the most recent EmmaxIan one as it was a little repetitive. The CherryxIan scenes are some of the best written IMHO. With that said, this game towers over other games in this genre for its writing - even GGGB. Awesome work as always, and I get dizzy thinking about how many ending variations you’ll need to create for all the different routes! 😆

I’ve loved the new Minerva and Alison scenes mainly due to them being favourites of mine but seeing how certain choices like getting one of them the necklace gift changes there character makes it more fun to go back and do something different. Can’t wait to see how both girls stories progress
