What kind of art do you prefer?

I'm curious to know if you find hand drawn assets to the game a strong point or a liability.  I've always liked to draw and I became quite proficient at it, but I have no idea how to use 3D software... Most adult games use 3D renders, and I want to know if you feel more inmersed and aroused by them or maybe you prefer a more personal, handmade 2D look.

And if I may say, with 3d renders/animations the game size just grows...

For myself (I draw like laLinesa, but opposite to me he's an artist) I make 3d works I'll never give to public) but it's far from the quality of Rock Iwao or Moiarte. But YOU are an artist with your drawings. Keep the stile as personal trademark! You do great and there are no real comparable drawings in the net and games in that manner. It would be a lost for all, to lose your drawings, even when i persume, that your renderings will be perfect too. But, in the net are a lot of games with the same 3d basic figures and I can mix up characters.

Definitely agree with most of the comments! You art is pretty unique and it is what gives your game an edge! Personally, i like this style over the 3D stuff! Keep up the great work!

3d renders are only good if the artist puts in the effort to get it right, sadly almost none of the developers on patreon put that effort into their renders.

Your 2d art makes your game unique. Screw 3d renders, too many dime a dozen.

I am a fan of both, but I love your story first and foremost. You keep doing what you do.

Love your artwork. I like both 3D and 2D but like most here, I would love you to keep doing what you're doing.

I think the answer is clear with the voting poll results ;) I really love your art, personally I admire people who draw because I can't even make a full circle LoL xD

Oh lord, I vastly prefer your art to 3-D renders. Keep it, please! It's one of the things that makes the game great!

I have no preference, depends on how those styles are used.

It comes off as being condescending by in my opinion, you go 3D renders when you cannot draw. I love 2D art and you have no idea how hard it is to find good games that use drawings instead of the same old same old Daz Studio and Poser V4-6 and Genesis models.

a
ataoz · May 21, 2017

Your art is amazing. I prefer 2D which makes game immersive.

H
HipCat Printery · May 21, 2017

All the 3D art is pretty samey. Lots of people who can't draw, have no idea of anatomy cutting and pasting vaginas and cocks onto shop manikins. Btw, what I love about your work is that you try to construct a real narrative instead of the usual dumb fuck everything which moves (woman hating) narrative so many adult games on patreon have embraced.

N
Nyrreah · May 26, 2017

I ended hating all this movement of patreon with games with 0 depth. I know this is porn, but come on, we can have porn with some narrative depth... and/or some simulation of a life...

I prefer 3D renders but I'd keep ur 2D art renders, it helps give the game it's own atmosphere in the story, and it's one of the reasons why I was "drawn" to it, ;)

Your art, definitely! As some said before me, 3d is great, but it is hard to make something that actually looks good, especially when you will do it all alone. You see, what most authors here in Patreon do is simply buy the assets in Daz, then use the models. I haven't seen a single game yet that is properly rendered (and I should know, given my Gnomon background) here in Patreon. And I really doubt that most authors here really know how to use real 3d programs, like Maya, Z Brush and likes, let alone how to render under proper rendering software, like V-Ray, Redshift, etc... Heck, V-Ray alone takes, literally, years to really master. You also need to learn how to properly texture yor assets using software like Mari, Substance and the likes, preferably using PBR. Then there's all the rigging and 3d animation as well. As you can see, proper 3d is a very, very tall order. Why go through all this, when your art is already great? Bottom line : unless you have a full team of really experienced 3d artists, just stick to 2d art, otherwise you'll just do what most artists here in Patreon do, which is making a very amateur looking 3d game. Cheers and keep up the great work!

Gnomon, awesome! One of my dreams is to attend FDZ, if this project proves successful maybe I'll be able to pay for it :D

I prefer good 3D art and feel of realism, but in your case I share opinion with others that your unique 2D art fits the game just perfectly. I admire your work and way of story telling... exactly the way I would like more games nowdays including mine to be directed. ;)

Your art is actually the thing that made me interested in the game :) 3D stuff is mostly bad, too "plastic" and lifeless unless done properly which means a lot of time and effort as well as top level skills. But still nice artwork is much better for the kind of game it is ;)

M
Mike Rulez · May 21, 2017

Also, your art style reminds me a little of the 1997 mainstream game "The Last Express", an art style I adored! :)

M
Mike Rulez · May 21, 2017

@Eva Kiss your graphics are a work of art! Compared to the plethora of others who use and abuse the RPGMaker system to damnation with the same models going around and around (seriously, I don't know in how many games I've seen that old fat guy now!) this game does itself a great service to differentiate itself. It also offers a nice counter balance to the equally abused hentai games out there, with over-dimensioned and one-dimensional characters. Your character designs are interesting people with several layers! Like that scene with Jack downing a shot to not answer the question if he has ever loved anyone. That subtle scene said so much by doing to little, just loved it! :) You'd never see that in a hentai, that's for sure! I'm glad you're making this game, I hope it inspires others to follow in your tracks!

E
Eva Kiss · May 21, 2017

Thank you for noticing! Most characters have they reasons and motivations, maybe you'll learn more about them in the future if you know what buttons to press with them :)

E
Eva Kiss · May 21, 2017

Thanks! That makes me assured that what I thought it would make my game stand out really does :) Besides, it would be too much of a hassle and take too much time to learn 3D now I think, and I want to keep pumping out content!

A
Abelius · May 21, 2017

Yeah, your art is great and unique. Period. Also you're right not underestimating the actual time it would take to REALLY master 3D posing software. It's far more complex than people tend to think.

N
Nyrreah · May 21, 2017

Well, nowadays all the games abuses of 3D renders, conclusion? All look the same, artistic speaking. Call me dinosaur, but I rather prefear the old "2D art", because seems more personal to me... But it's just a subjective opinion, do as you feel...

s
stoperArt · May 21, 2017

I don't have preferences for one or the other. A good art is a good art. 2D drawing are more flexible, you can build your own style and even if it's simple it can still look good. With 3D you're either good at it, or it looks like shit (like 99% of the Patreon porn trash). The software most of those 3D games use is Daz Studio and at it's base level it's very simple. It's pretty much only stock assets, leaded and rendered. If you tweak it and personalize it, you can end up with a pretty good looking stuff. But most of those people don't bother with such "trivialities" as quality. It doesn't change my level of immersion either. Unless it's a very good 3D, but that's extremely rare in porn.

E
Enrico · May 21, 2017

2d all the way. Why? Because you are not restricted, your only limit is your skill. Using 3d has far more limitations (the time it takes, the issues in displaying characters' expressions and so on..). Don't think for a second that other successful creators are better because of using 3d, they are not (they were just clever or lucky to capitalize on Patreon at the best time possible)

G
Galamuth · May 21, 2017

Don't even think about switching to 3d!!! Your art is marvelous and making this game immersive and gorgeous. :)

T
ThorMcBalbo · May 21, 2017

your handjob is what made me come here.. .. *cough* i mean.. Your handmade 2D artworks works like a charm. if we talk in general, 2d or 3d makes no difference to me(unless it's incredibly shitty), it's the story my main focus on a game.

B
Breadloaf · May 21, 2017

Your handmade 2D artworks works great. It requires a lot of effort to create 3D character renders with an unique, personal look, and I don't think it is worth the effort unless you have the resources of a game studio. I very much doubt that Naughty Dog will produce something naughty, so keep doing what you are already doing...

c
couchtyp · May 21, 2017

I honestly like both - but I think the 2D fits very well in your case.

A
Akihiko-san · May 21, 2017

Definitely prefer 2D. There is too many 3D games anyway, and it's not like they're really more arousing\immersive for me. Many such games contains bad quality 3D models. Or just the same models. Not arousing, unlike your characters. I always feel more respect for handmade art too. Plus, your art is one of the best i've seen in such games.

A
Abelius · May 21, 2017

For the love of God, don't you dare to switch to 3D renders!!! :-O
