I don't know... I loved so much BACK THEN that they brought back Captain Sulu, Rand, and Kang, but rewatching it now, unfortunately, I got a "Shades of Grey" vibe from it. Why haven't they figured out a better device for flashbacks than the "suffering from brain disease and is in sick bay" thing? C tier just for Takei-Whitney-Ansara, but otherwise... meh.

There is no way they are having Geroge back and not plaster ads everywhere. TV ratings mattered way more than surprising the audience. That concept or idea wouldn't even occur to anyone at this time. You would be the meme of the guy getting tossed out the window.

I saw this when it first aired and UPN was running promos for George Takei's appearance around the clock. It was spoiled within seconds of the end credits on the previous week's episode.

It’s not the best episode but I’m glad Sulu and Rand got to shine. I bet those two never expected to be playing Sulu sbdvRabd thirty years later.

I know Chekov was not in this episode but the fact that the episode includes TOS legend George Takei AND since Takei was the real life friend of Walter Koenig, in addition to Sulu & Chekov being written on screen as pals, I feel it appropriate here to honor his life... R.I.P. Walter Koenig 💔 R.I.P. Walter Koenig Walter Koenig had been struggling ever since his wife died. Years ago when his son died from suicide, he and his wife leaned on each other to get through life. And just a couple years ago after his wife passed he actually talked a little bit about his difficulty coming to terms with that when he was on stage during his panel at a Star Trek Convention 🌟 He was coughing & was trying to shake some illness he was at the tale end of and he seemed so frail. I can only hope that he is at peace now.

90 is a good run and out living your family, especially children has got to make going on difficult. RIP Walter. You helped add a lot to all our lives.

Wouldn't it have been interesting, since Neelix was talking about food being told with a story, if Tuvok told a story about the Excelsior while preparing a Vulcan meal?

Per memory, Tuvok was playing Tuvok on the Excelsior in STVI. But Tuvok was playing a human on the Ent-B in Generations.

It's so fun seeing their thoughts here about how there's no way Trek could do anything more elaborate with TOS crew for the 30th Anniversary than what we got with this episode, knowing that they've since watched 'Trials...'

They chose that part of TOS because the Tuvok actor was on the bridge in ST6
