To the question of "what's something too crazy that you wouldn't be willing to accept?" There's basically nothing I wouldn't accept, it'd have to be something so insane that nobody would ever do it. Like idk have the characters travel at infinity speed, then idk turn into like lizards then have lizard sex, and have lizard babies and then somehow easily be turned back to normal and then just move on and forget about it. But no show would ever do that.

Season finale cliff hangers were hell back in the day. So many shows did it and a few were cancelled so the series just ended without any closure.

It says the truth is out there in Navajo.

DD "So Chris, I've been thinking, it's been almost a season, and I think we should bring back the red speedo. Now I.." CC "We're not doing the speedo again! They barely let us air that scene." DD "I'll settle for boxers?" CC "(sigh) Goddammit, fine." This one was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. One of the advantages of not having watched this series more than a couple times is that I barely remember most of these episodes. Also XF is back on prime, so that makes watching along easier on my end. While I'm of course not inclined to believe cancer man, if he truly didn't order the death of Mulder's dad, then who was Krycek acting on behalf of? I get the idea that you don't want to just have "The Truth TM" revealed to Mulder too early in the series, and have no answers left to seek, but at the same time, there needs to be SOME progression. Simply being denied any answers over and over again will get stale. He, and we, need to get a taste at some point, even if it's only a piece of the puzzle. And as others have pointed out, both Mulder and Scully have not only seen but spoken to an alien, though in the bounty hunter's case, I suppose there's always that bit of doubt he's actually an alien. Russian genetic engineering or whatever the cover story was. But coming face to face with a living Roswell grey would be something else entirely. As for how Mulder got out of the box car, I honestly can't remember. I couldn't tell if there were doors at either end or a hatch on the floor, but then where would he go? I'll find out with you guys when S3 starts.

I love that you two are debating on if the show will have Mulder ever meet an alien, when you're glancing over the fact that both him and Scully have met a shapeshifting alien.

first thing I woulda done is start making copies, but that's just how my brain works X3 *in general* for rewatches I tend to lean more toward monster of the weeks, but I think I just realized that might be because when I don't have the time to commit to the whole thing, they can be an easy "quick bite-sized" self-contained XF snack, but in rewatching THE ENTIRE THING start to finish, these really are great :) and yep, Snow earning his paycheck here!

"I hope they made a copy of the files". Do you guys realize how long it would take to copy thousands of files with 90's computer technology lol....Hours

You guys, I am so excited! This is the first episode I saw when I was 11 years old. I was already getting obsessed with aliens because of Unsolved Mysteries, and this just solidified it. What an excellent piece of television! I am so enjoying watching my favorite show through your eyes.

id have thought with as on it as you guys are with recurring co-stars you'd have recognized Nicholas Lea (Krycek) in the opening credits.

I just noticed at 1.15 a ghost moves Alex's phone... spooky!

We finally learn more about the Anasazi after the name drop last week. This episode was such a big deal at the time. In the UK it came out on VHS a few weeks before being broadcast and was the number one selling tape for a while. This is pretty much the point where The X-Files really becomes huge.

This is a great episode, back when this first aired, the end to at least those I knew, was not that did Mulder die? No, it was how does he get out? where did he go? For camera work, I wonder if you both have seen "Rope" (1948) I think you both would appreciate the camera work

Great question, Coffee Talk (and comment about the cell service).

Z
Zenlike Creature · October 20, 2026

Didn't mentioned it last episode but Mulder references the Anasazi as being a tribe that vanished without trace whilst talking to Scully about other cannibal tribes on the planet. I think this is a fantastic episode, probably more-so as I (and many of us here) know how season three gets underway. It's going to be a long wait until you get back underway but vey much looking forward to it!

Mulder is maybe about a buck forty five. Not to throw too much shade, but how much damage did he expect to do on Skinner with a sucker punch?

C
Collin Freeman · October 20, 2026

With the proper technique, a person can do plenty of damage with that weight behind the blow.

R
Ryan · October 20, 2026

"Krycek, you killed my father!" "No, Mulder. *I* am your father." Okay, not really, but that would've been fun. I'm glad you guys didn't recognize Nicholas Lea's name in the credits. That was a great pop. Man, I love this episode.

T
Tim Nikiforovs · October 25, 2026

Hello. My name is agent Fox Mulder. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

D
Demijan Omeragic · October 20, 2026

Keep in mind, Mulder did actually see an alien in episode "End Game", literally shape-shifting in front of him, and oozing toxic green blood which almost killed him. :D But that aside, you guys probably meant an alien that looks like the typical "gray" alien. This also raises an interesting point though. Because so far we have seen an alien who looks human (played by Brian Thompson), and we've also seen the "standard" alien type, call them grays or even "little green men", whichever you prefer. As far as the power of the cliffhanger goes, well, at the time of the original airing, people could not know definitively 100% if Mulder survived or not. There were actual speculations online whether he might be dead. So because you guys know (or at least strongly assume) that he survives, the cliffhanger does indeed appear a bit weak, but back in the day this was not the case. It was quite powerful. Regardless, thank you for a very enjoyable reaction video and episode review once again.

It’s crazy the way this episode starts with the reveal that this conspiracy stuff is bigger than the FBI or US government but is international. Until this point the only hint at that was when Deep Throat said the nations agreed any country that found a living alien would be responsible for killing it. I love watching you guys put pieces together, just like we all did in the ‘90s. You know Alex is into it when he’s tracking the dates!

R
Rom Paris · October 20, 2026

I would say IMDB ratings for older stuff tend to reflect what the general opinion of the fanbase was circa early 00s, after it added message boards in 2001. Since this was shortly before everyone on the planet was on the internet, it leaned more toward the opinion of the nerdier hardcore fanbase. I think Threshold being one of the lowest rated Trek episodes is a good example of this nerdier bias.

Poor Skinner, he did not deserve that punch.

C
Coffee Talk · October 20, 2026

Just so y'all know, Chris Carter was the man sitting at the table questioning Scully in Skinner's office. Don't know if y'all clocked that... Look forward to the next season!!!!!
