I really love the music in this one, best of the series. So much fun watching with you.
To try and answer Josh's question about the ending, about why I hate it, I think it's a combination of X lying to Mulder and turning out to be a POS, and also Chester ending up like that. I have nothing against "downer" endings, but this one sort of feels... wrong. And if Chester hadn't killed that agent on purpose near the end of the episode, the ending would've felt even worse. So yeah, it's a combination of many things I guess. I still consider it a great episode but the ending genuinely bothers me, even though we've had much more depressing endings so far I think.
Had almost no memory of this one going in. It was pretty good, bit more of a sci fi mystery. The effect of the people sinking into the shadow was kind of goofy, but still a cool concept. Wonder if this guy's shadow could have taken out Thanos? Shalhoub was a solid guest star. Even though he killed several people accidentally and one intentionally, he was trying his best to contain this thing before it could be weaponized. Felt really bad for him at the end. As for Mr. X, I think this was par for the course. He's always been using Mulder for his own purposes, and giving just enough in return to keep him on a leash. We've seen him murder in cold blood before, so his actions at the end were no surprise. I do think this is the first time we've seen genuine fear from him though, when he saw Banton's shadow getting too close after vaporizing his 2 agents.
I do like this one, We get Mr. X back, and I do like the ending, which Mr. X does leave Mulder wondering, by saying I did not kill him.
This is going to end up being one of your favorite shows of all time. I guarantee it!
also I agree with Alex on "the 90's ambience" score - Snow tends to naturally want to steer more orchestral, but Carter early on asked him for "moody synths" to set the tone, and I have to agree with Carter on that
maybe not the top-shelf scotch, but one I regularly enjoy revisiting, nice blur of MotW and lore
Classic X-Files right here. This is the type of story that is what I loved about the show. A mix of bizarre, creepy, and intriguing "what if" type of concept. Good stuff!
I really enjoy this episode, it's one of my favourites for sure. When I was young and watching for the first time, I thought the idea of someone's shadow just disintegrating people like that was so cool. And you know what, I still do! Glad you guys liked it.
lmao, love the lebron discourse
First time I've seen this episode, but I'd like to speculate the victims did not die but transferred to another reality. Makes me feel somewhat better about these people who really did not deserve that fate.
B-tier for me, entertaining premise. Mr. X is a fascinating character.
He's closing his career out in Philadelphia because it's alwaya sunny there
I liked the tear rolling down his cheek at the end but I think it would've hit a bit harder if they had given him a scene to establish that emotional or sympathetic aspect to his character. Good episode overall though
I think he's very sympathetic- he was a victim of an accident and accidentally killed his friend and co-worker, then goes on to accidentally kill 4 more people before he escapes (thanks to X), HAS to kill a young woman doing her job to fix the problem but is betrayed by his co-worker/friend(?) and is then basically tortured until he dies or is no long useful (and then they'll kill him anyway)
I totally forgot this was a Gilligan script. Apparently he was a fan and submitted it on spec.
Vince has entered the chat.
Twilight Zone is the entry drug to further good TV show gratification. Lay back, take a hit off of an episode from one of these great shows, and enjoy.
Poor Monk :/
Gotta love a good downer ending and this is one of my favorites.
Pacific Central Station! Cool! It's kinda fun seeing places I now know since moving to Vancouver
There’s something kismet like about y’all watching Vince Gillian’s first TV writing credit right after he won his first TV writing Emmy
He only now won his first award?
