If taken from an "episodic series" perspective, this episode really feels like "a part one in search of a part two." If taken from a "big storyline serialized over a single season" perspective, it feels like a piece of a story arc which, as you said ("sequel baiting"), will make sense later in the context of that arc. The problem is that at this point, DS9 is doing both and neither, so occasionally I guess we can expect that every so often there'll be an episode that is, you know, both and neither.
This episode is fine but long-haired Julian bumps it up about two tiers for me
You guys actually make some good points but I LOVED this episode although your points are definitely valid. To me it was more about fun than a deeper dramatic episode. There's a REASON they bring these mirror episodes back and these callback episodes back. It's because they're SO FUN! But on a serious note you guys aren't wrong but mirror episodes are HIGHLY POPULAR for a reason. But yes I have to admit the flaws. I can't argue or debate those. I was too busy having too much fun. And yes there are a section of fans that hate all the mirror episodes going back to TOS. They do exist I'm just not one of those. 😅 I'm Team Mirror Universe all day.
WIthout giving any hints of spoilers, this episode is where the idea started to wear on me.
At this stage I'm going to have to pay Behr to do a Cameo for you both, so he can say that he's been show runner for over a year by the time of this episode.
I've never been a fan of the DS9 mirror universe episodes. Maybe crossover was fine, but they didn’t need to come back for a double dip.
They weren't going to (this season anyway), but expanding Improbable Cause into a two-parter required this episode as a stop-gap.
I'm a little surprised you didn't like this one, but your arguments make sense.
