YOUTUBE - Prime Factors | Star Trek Fans First Time Watching Voyager

Does everything you could hope for in a S1 VOY episode: visit a new civ', tease out another Get Home Quick plot, tension among the lower decks in their desperation to get home faster, providing some character growth among key characters. I do believe 'Prime Factors' *is* one of the best of this season!

Yeah, I love this episode for the tension between the characters , the moral dilemma, the acting (particularly between Kate Mulgrew, Roxann Dawson, and Tim Russ).. I even like the actor playing the slimy magistrate because I think he nailed his role. He was carefully manipulative in his pleasure-seeking. You say you didn't like him. Yeah, neither do I. You're not supposed to. So to me that means he played his part well. There was nothing about his acting that felt weak or forced or anything like that to me. In fact I really enjoy the subtle exasperation he shows whenever Janeway pushes back on him, while still trying to act hospitable and convince her to stick around -- until the end when he has had enough and tells them to go. And I LOVE Tim Russ' reaction when Janeway says "I need you." You can just tell that he never realized how important their relationship was to Janeway and he is taken aback by it. He felt something in that moment that he didn't know what to do with as a Vulcan - a bond of deep friendship that was beyond his ability to feel, yet there it was nonetheless, and the realization that he has damaged it. Just an amazing little moment there from Tim.

Actually an important detail about Vulcans. They can say Vulcans are emotionless. That Vulcans never lie. This one addresses Vulcans are pure logic. They are people. They have culture and morality. It is still up to them to use logic and fortunately they do it in a generally positive and constructive way.

Janeway: “We don’t steal from other cultures for our own benefit.” Kirk (wearing Romulan ears with a cloaking device tucked under his arm): “Yeah, that’d be wrong.”

Sometimes, "It's Better To Ask For Forgiveness Than To Ask For Permission".

I could have done a top ten for season 1, it was a great season, State of Flux, Prime Factors, Parallax, Cloud, the Phage, Eye of the Needle are the best but Caretker, Jettel and Cathexis are great rounders for the season.
