A for me.
Strong A+++ episode, just held back a little for being too reliant on the one-time gimmick of time-shifting Chief.
It's a fun episode. I really enjoy the concept. But there's nothing earth-shattering about it in terms of plot or character development, so it gets a B from me.
A strong A for me. Not quite S-tier, but it's scratching at the door, like the next door neighbor's cat wanting to come in when you've made an awesome tuna casserole which she can smell and expects a free handout ..... because she's a cat. NO, POPPY! You CAN'T come in! Go back home! Okay.... maybe just a little, but then.... HEY! GET OUT OF MY CASSEROLE! Dammit....
Something I just thought about. Why are the Romulans so paranoid about the Dominion they are willing to blow up the wormhole? Because during the simulation in ‘The Search, part II’ the Romulans were excluded from negotiations by the Dominion for being a disruptive element. It ended up being like a self fulfilling prophecy. And the Romulans were already a secretive and paranoid race to begin with. And also they would know from T’Rul that one way to stop the Dominion would be to collapse the wormhole.
A tier for the overall series. S tier by the average standard of several episodes before and after it.
Time travel? Automatically An A, As Always! But no S this time, because the final jump into the future introduces so many plotholes.
Came for O'Brien, stayed for the suffering.
Very good, not quite as good as Whispers
Definitely an S from me! One of my favorite DS9 episodes! A classic Trek temporal story!
O'Brien must suffer yet again. I like this one but the ending keeps me from giving it a full S tier. Temporal sacrifice replaced by time clone is one of my least favorite tropes. Not because it's bad but because I hate being faced with the idea. For some reason it profoundly disturbs me. To be replaced by myself and be both alive and dead simultaneously... No thanks.
I think it was deliberately written as both lacking logic and not played entirely seriously, so that we could effectively dismiss O'Brien dying as just something that didn't hold up to any serious thought. That's my guess anyway. Kill off a character in relative terms, but not in a way that will impact the audience.
My favourite of the Season, obvious S from me.
