Point of Order: That is indeed Mary Tyler Moore, but that is the Dick Van Dyke Show. It is a trailblazing show, you might want to watch a couple for a reaction on your solo channel. Nobody reacts to that to my knowledge.
Really like the crew dynamics in this one, even if the plot is a rather simple sci-fi thing of the week. Unfortunately, this episode was also the exact moment when Neelix got on my nerves to the point of no return.
Your observations on the evolution of Star Trek as you watch it with a compressed timeline is fascinating. Watching Voyager back in the day felt very Star Trek formulaic with Starfleet solutions to problems. At the time, the contrast of Babylon 5 with its shades of grey characters and storylines made it extremely fresh in comparison to Star Trek. My memorable moment from The Cloud is when The Doctor gets muted and treated like an appliance which sets the baseline for his character growth.
I did enjoy the wrestling rambling reminiscing at the end 👍
Coffee is for closers.
I've always wondered if Janeway taking her coffee black was a nod to that little girl in the movie Airplane!. Probably not, but who knows?
💀
When one rewatches as much as I do, you can have downs of ‘I would write this differently’ but I have less of that with Voyager, I am still in my ‘Yeah I get to watch Voyager again!’ Stage. I am glad the coffee bit was so early on so it wasn’t a long running spoiler (you were looking for plot device)
3 quarts of coffee a day for over 40 years.
I thought this was a really great episode when it came to some quick character development for us, the audience. It was full of comedy, and yes--I kept forgetting about the main plot, which was basically just the vehicle for the cheese dip. Who cares if it's a cracker or a chip when the dip (the crew) is amazing and full of flavor.
I'm glad you guys are enjoying Voyager. I feel too many people approach Voyager expecting another DS9 and get upset that it's not the same thing. If you take Voyager on it's own terms though, there's a lot to like here. I appreciate Voyager's partial serialisation that I feel strikes a nice balance between TNG and DS9.
Well at least till you get a lot of those awful holodeck episodes
