Inused to say Naked Time was my favorite episode but i've decided its this one. If there one episode of the series that tells you what Star Trek is it's this one

I think this must be the episode where Nichols said something like "if I have to open hailing frequencies one more time, I'm going to smash this damn panel!" She opens them like a dozen times and I can't think of another line from her the whole ep.
To be clear, imo this is some top tier TOS. Cracking dialogue, acting, direction, camera work. Even the very best eps often have some cringe moments and/or tragically underused characters.

In the 23rd century, just like today, the primary function of military academies is so that you will never meet a Mr Bailey or Mr Barcaly on your ship. They are gone in the first week.
I cant unsee Nichel Nicoles looking like she's nodding off in the briefing room scene. Not since I rèad that she was on painkillers because of a car accident that happened while filming. I got this from a book William Shatner wrote.
lol i must have seen this episode 100 times and i never caught that.
This was the first Star Trek episode made in regular production and yet everything that made the series great is present here
You can see how it works as a first episode with the way Kirk is expressing his exasperation, and without saying it, that he could easily have the hots for his Yoeman.
"It's not chess...it's poker!" That tells us 80% Kirk's character development in that one line.
I miss the head bobbing during the intro title card/credits & music.
just wait until they get to star trek: enterprise. oy vey.

One badly dated line aside this is high on my list of favorite TOS episodes
