Harlan was in a class all by himself. A masterful writer; difficult with some people and some situations, but never compromising.

I always loved this one. It’s really magical realism more than horror or sci fi. There are three great episodes that are more sci fi: Profile in Silver, A Message from Charity (which has a TNG face you’ll recognize), and Her Pilgrim Soul (directed by Wes Craven). If you need a Christmas episode, check out The Star. Night of the Meek and Shadow Play are direct remakes of original Twilight Zone episodes. You might want to do a compare and contrast.

Excellent reaction! I had never seen this one and it did not disappoint. I loved Danny Kaye's movies when I was a kid. So good to see him one more time. As for 2 guys in a room just talking, I must recommend "The Sunset Limited" (2011). An intense chamber play about belief or unbelief, and a conversation about what's true and important in life, or not. Tagline: Nothing is ever black or white. "The Sunset Limited" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1510938/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_sunset%2520l And then there is this one with 7-8 people in a room just talking called, "The Man from Earth" (2007). An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues that he has a longer and stranger past than they can imagine. Tagline: From one of the acclaimed writers of Star Trek and The Twilight Zone comes a story that transcends both time and space... Now you know why this is my favorite Twilight Zone episode of all time. And I've seen a lot of the shows (remakes and all.) But after watching "City on the Edge of Forever", I found Harlan Ellison's writing in the 1970's. And he was a modern master of miracles and monstrosities, written in such gifted prose that I sometimes forget I'm reading text. I'm REALLY glad you liked it. If you decide to read any Ellison short stories, may I recommend "Jeffty Is Five" to you. From the Wikipedia article: "Jeffty Is Five" is a fantasy short story by American author Harlan Ellison. It was first published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in 1977, then was included in DAW's The 1978 Annual World's Best SF in 1978 and Ellison's short story collection Shatterday two years later. According to Ellison, it was partially inspired by a fragment of conversation that he misheard at a party at the home of actor Walter Koenig: "How is Jeff?" "Jeff is fine. He's always fine," which he perceived as "Jeff is five, he's always five." Ellison based the character of Jeffty on Joshua Andrew Koenig, Walter's son.

One 80s remake you should watch is The Blob.

This is my second favorite episode (and my favorite from the 80s version). From the original run, I would recommend "Mr Garrity and the Graves" and "King Nine Will Not Return".

Danny Kay was a very prolific actor. His best known movie (as far as I'm concerned) was White Christmas. I also remember him in a cool movie called Wonder Man.

Yes, Danny Kaye was a top tier celebrity for his singing and acting careers in the 1940's and 50's. I'm glad they could pull him out of retirement for something like this.
