E for this one... just so very bad. This is the last of the "wtf why did i watch this episode" episodes for DS9.
C for Cringe tier. It's one of those episode that I won't skip on a bingewatch, but still cringe at every time.
Both sides relied heavily on the guest character to be the leader even though she protested that she was a farmer and didn't have the experience for such a role. If they would have brought some Awareness back to that initial difficulty at the end, that may have helped smooth it out.
Hi - new here It’s middling C for me
The Bajorans have great faith in the prophets, the Skreean believe Bajor is the fulfillment of their prophecy, Kaatan, the suffering planet. The Jews believed ancient Israel was prophetically and by heritage their homeland, the Muslims, who conquered it centuries earlier, believed otherwise. Not the greatest episode, but DS9 is great at tackling issues in the real world through sci-fi, continuing the Trek tradition. DS9 ended in 1999, but by September 11, 2001, we would see it was ahead of its time. Keep watching, you'll soon see why.
I honestly don't understand the E ratings and why this episode is so disliked by many. Yes, I think we all agree the Skreans are insufferable...but they were intentionally written that way. Also, as a standalone piece, the episode is far from stellar, but it's not a standalone piece. It's another "setting the stage" piece of what's going on in the Gamma Quadrant. It ties in really well with later seasons. I give this one a C.
My guess would be that this is considered a 'redundant' episode. That it either could have been written better, or that other episodes in S2 can serve the same wider purpose. (I'm avoiding specifics on purpose). Some episodes just irritate or annoy people. I find 'Sanctuary' frustrating, but not an E.
Oh how I wish I could give this an E and erase it from canon...
The Skreans were plants
This episode was good. The Bajorans were being pragmatic and cautious as they should be, but the Skreea, particularly the lead woman, are guided by their religion, so that's all they could see. If only they had been thinking rationally from jump. But in a way it's Kira's fault for just elevating the first person to reach the station the spot as the leader. Who knows if she had any formal education? It ends on a big downer, which also seems appropriate. I didn't know it was so disliked tbh.
I've seen this episode once, never again! It should be erased from memory and never spoken of again, Thank you and Goodnight!

Some trivia for this episode Patreon members probably already talked about: Guest star Andrew Koenig, who plays Tumak, was Walter Koenig's son. Minister Rozahn and Vedek Sorad came to Deep Space 9 with the official response to the Skrreea's request for settlement on Bajor. Rozahn is played by actress Kitty Swink, who in real life is married to Armin Shimerman (Quark) since 1981.
