UNCUT - The X-Files S1E2 - Deep Throat
Comments (48)
someone probably already commented this, but "Deep Throat" was the name given to the government whistleblower that exposed Nixon to the Washington Post back in the day: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Throat_(Watergate) and a porno was named AFTER that person, and the act was named for that (I think?) but the OG term was for a government leak, hence this character.
I love that you guys are watching this. I watched tng when it aired but didn’t watch xfiles until years later. The 90s of it all is SO FUN
Oh god... cringe.. Let me set the record straight. I love this episode but the lady they visit who's husband is having a similar issue and the UFO waitress at the diner? Those are NOT Idaho accents, lol.
Did anybody notice Scully had to borrow Homer Simpson's phone? 😂
You might of missed or already been said but pretty sure Jerry Hardin AKA Deep Throat acts in 2 TNG episodes you seen in S1EP17 and plays Mark Twain.
Their favorite character :)
Just wrapped the pilot with you lot, and I’m glad you’re intrigued. However, at the moment, I’m far too busy enjoying this post-viewing high, smoking a cigarette, and talk-singing “Rocket Man” into the mirror wile wearing nothing but a tuxedo bow tie and tighty-whities. So, I’ll keep this brief: Don’t bounce around. Seriously. The X-Files mythology arc: government conspiracies, alien abductions, cigarette-smoking men who aren’t me is VERY serialized. Skip around too much, and you’ll feel like you walked into season 3 of someone else’s fever dream. Even the “monster-of-the-week” episodes occasionally connect to the overarching mythology. I hope you take my advice (which you probably are already doing without my prodding.) Because, as always...I want to believe. ✨👽🛸
Let's fucking go!....again!
Well, you have seen 4 episodes you have said, so you have seen Squeeze. It's safe to tell you now, and you probably know....that this show is NOT just aliens. It's all paranormal or unexplained phenomena. It's got a reputation that it's just aliens because that's the image that the show curated over the years.
I was thinking about your discussion of what circumstances make it okay for the audience to know more than the lead characters on TV shows. The X-Files is really good at drip-feeding us just enough extra facts to keep us interested, but not enough to give us any real answers either. I hope you continue. It's fun feeling like I'm watching the show for the first time again.
I never saw this show originally, so all the episodes you watch I will watch for the first time.
Oh you're in for a treat! This is literally one of best, most iconic TV shows that ever aired.
Kept going guys. The series is really good for the most part.
This episode I think it's even better than the pilot. Hope you keep watching!
This was the first episode I ever saw when it first aired, I didn’t see the pilot until sometime later. Being a big fan as a kid of the short-lived series PROJECT U.F.O. (also known as PROJECT BLUE BOOK) and KOLCHAK from the 70s I was instantly hooked. There’s so much great stuff to come and I’m super glad you guys have decided to continue. Keep it going!
Star Trek The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine & now the X-Files?! Best timeline ever!!
Absolutely!
So glad you have continued at this point. Also loved this show. Hope you enjoy it and continue with it all
You have made my October! X-Files is so freaking good and I think you guys will like more of the episodes than you don’t. And the monster of the week episodes are really great, most of the time.
Please watch the entire series (excluding seasons 10 and 11)
We may have a season 12 by the time they get to 10 and 11. Talks are happening and a showrunner is trying to bring it back. Everyone is on board. We gotta see what FOX decides.
It's been a decade since I watched the X-Files last. I'm enjoying it again on rewatch. Keep the train rolling.
When Scully is doing her report, you'll notice the number 1013 in the case number. 1013 pops up a lot in X-Files. 10/13 is Chris Carter's Birthday, and he made The X-Files under his own production company Ten Thirteen Productions.
Already?, I love you guys!
Once again, you guys keep watching these, I'll be there.
In case you did not make connection with the episode's title, the Woodward and Berstein Watergate informant's code name was "Deep Throat". Jerry Hardin's role here. I do believe that Alex (Mulder) "Wants to believe". Not sure about Josh (Scully), yet.
I love the slow burning "conspiracy" plot. They feed you just enough to keep you hooked.
Like a fine narcotic
I was so happy to see this and so excited to watch it with you guys. One of my favorite shows and I can't wait to see you see more!
Also have to recommend Six Feet Under...
So fun fact, they wiped Mulder's memory by forcing him to smoke a ridiculous amount of weed while showing him pictures of everything he was supposed to forget. It's why they weren't worried about Seth Green's character. Don't do drugs, kids.
Who says weed is a drug? Well, I guess in the 90's it was considered one. :P
The people who are producing TV shows at the time of The X-Files are starting to learn to make better shows and treating each season as a book and each episode is a chapter some chapters relevant to the story some not as relevant all of interest in short each episode is an X-File You have mythos episodes and you have standalone/monster of the week But most of all you’ve got Chris Carter and Vince Gilligan saying let’s raise the bar on what television is
Could not have said it better myself. I think 90's TV was pivotal to what we have now. This is when STORYTELLING truly began. This, OZ, Sopranos, The Wire, eventually Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones etc. We literally get to watch TV break out of it's episodic past with The Xfiles. Starting to anyway!
More! More I say!
I continue to be here for all of trek. Now I’m here for all of xfiles. Keep going!
That grayed out look is probably due at least in part to it being filmed in British Colombia, Canada.
It's weird seeing Mr. Clemens/Mark Twain in such a low-key and calm persona isn't it (Jerry Hardin) lol. These first two episodes portray wonderfully the two aspects of the alien conspiracy; the aliens themselves, and also the government coverups. Not every episode is about the alien conspiracy, though. It's about all paranormal activity. A lot have nothing to do with aliens at all or the government coverup conspiracy. This show must borrow from every paranormal story based on real events and/or witness accounts from multiple cultures and time periods from all over the world. That's how this show can go on for 11 seasons and 2 movies. And for the most part it does it extremely well. The show starts to fall off a little bit for me in later seasons, but there are still great moments and important events and it's all always enjoyable. Loving your guys' reactions specifically as much as I enjoy the Star Trek journey! Hope you continue and follow through for the entire series! It's a television classic that deserves your attention!
Love this show! Would love to see you guys keep going!
These have already been fun to watch with you guys. Can't wait for the next one, it'll definitely be memorable.
Absolutely. I may have to get Hulu streaming again just to do the watch-along on that one.
This was interesting to watch. Considering the episode theme. Watching your faces I was intrigued to pick a sceptic and a believer. Josh, your expressions put you in the former for so much of this video. 😂
Even though I am completely broke ass at this point I decided to buy the first season on prime to watch along.
I just did the same since I saw the did ep 2. I really hope the guys do a couple more
I mentioned in one of the Time's Arrow episode comment sections that this actor (Deep Throat) is better on X-Files. No weird all over the place enunciating like "MaDaM gUiNaN" And yes, the intro and theme are finally here. I love the font for your names in X-Files style!
He naturally has a strange voice about him but I sorta like it. It's unique.
Sweet! Now I can't WAIT for my shift to end! By the way, Deep Throat is your favorite actor! The guy who plays Mark Twain in Times Arrow over on TNG.
And the child predator from When the Bough Breaks
