Simmer Talk: IYKYK (And Now You Do)
The Sims 4 isn’t ending… it’s pivoting — and CES 2026 told on them.
Heyy boo! Welcome back to Simmer Talk.
I hope y’all are doing good — I’ve been chillin’, not chillin’, chillin’ (unfortunately, because let’s be real… it’s not giving winter the way it’s supposed to). I’m out here layered up like it's cozy season, meanwhile the weather’s like “sun’s out, girlie.” Very unserious.
Anyyywayyyss... this is the first Simmer Talk of 2026, and I came with predictions, tech tea, cozy speculation, and a little bit of dirty laundry — because what would this even be without a mild mess?
Ya girl has been researching. I’ve been, side-eyeing screenshots, and following trails EA probably hoped we wouldn’t notice. And I’m gonna walk y’all through every little breadcrumb.
But before we dig in — I just want to say thank you. Like really thank you. Y’all make Simmer Talk what it is. Every read, every share, every message? I feel it.
Now let’s get into it.
⌨ CES said more than EA ever could
While EA’s been off in silent mode (no tweets, no teasers, not even a casual “hey besties”), Intel pulled up to CES 2026 with a whole rollout. And if you were watching closely — really watching — you’d know they weren’t just talking processors. They were laying out a future where cozy games and handheld performance aren’t opposites anymore.
Intel’s next big play? A new handheld gaming platform.
Not hypothetical. Not leaked. Confirmed.
It’s powered by their new Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chips — chips that are built to handle real gaming, not just mobile ports. And the vibe around it? Less “FPS on the go” and more “cozy girl era, but make it tech.”
Translation: This thing is practically begging for a Sims title.
The handheld is set to launch later this year, with full details expected closer to Q3. So if you’ve been side-eyeing the “Sims 4 is ending” rumors and wondering what’s next — this might be your answer.
Because here’s the thing nobody’s really talking about:
PIF (the Public Investment Fund) has money in both Intel and EA. 🖧
That matters — not because they’re calling the shots, but because it shows us where the strategy is leaning.
PIF doesn’t just invest in games. They invest in ecosystems:
⟢ sandbox play
⟢ modding communities
⟢ platforms that flex from handheld to PC to cloud
⟢ cozy, creator-first content that lives forever
You know what franchise checks all those boxes?
Exactly... Sooo..
↑ sims next (aka project x)?
If Intel’s handheld launches later this year, best believe it’s going to need launch titles that show off:
⟢ community
⟢ customization
⟢ life-sim longevity
And The Sims 5 checks all those boxes.
Especially if it’s built with crossplay, creator tools, modding support, and cloud saves in mind. That’s not just a vibe — that’s a platform strategy.
You don’t need EA to say the words. The timing already did.
So when people say “Royalty & Legacy might be the final expansion”? I just smile.
Because if it’s the last of three… that would align perfectly with the handheld reveal window.
And guess what? That’s the moment we’re going to talk about next.
🜲 long live the crown
Now while Intel was out here spilling future plans at CES, EA… accidentally dropped a tiara.
According to SimsCommunity (shoutout to them for staying nosy), the next Sims 4 expansion is looking real official — Royalty & Legacy, leaked straight from the debug strings. And from the looks of it? They’re not just giving us crowns — they’re giving us castles, courts, and complications.
Here’s what’s floating around:
⟢ Noble titles
⟢ Royal family dynamics
⟢ Castle-core architecture
⟢ CAS dripping in velvet, pearls, and “don’t talk to me peasant” energy
⟢ Legacy mechanics that actually feel… meaty?
If that sounds a little extra, it’s because it is.... But hey — if we’re gonna do legacy play one last time, we might as well go full coronation.
And look — some folks are calling this the “final expansion.” I’m not. Because if this is the third in that quiet trio EA’s been working through? It lines up suspiciously well with that handheld launch window we just talked about.
✄ the laundry list (but likee... essentials)
Okay y’all — this isn’t the full list of fixes. I know we all play different (some of us got kits, some don’t… some of us deleted My Wedding Stories on purpose), so I’m not about to give you a 14-paragraph breakdown of bug fixes from packs you might not even own.
So here’s what I am giving you:
Just the base game, top-voted, and save file related fixes — the ones that actually impact all of us, no matter how you play.
If you want the full list with every tiny fix, I’ll drop that below.
But for now? Here’s what actually matters:
top 5 most voted fixes
⟢ Gallery upload error (Base Game)
⟢ Privacy mosaic not covering all age groups (Base Game)
⟢ Infant idle animation delaying care interactions (Base Game)
⟢ Blank memorial portraits and graduation photos (University, Life & Death)
⟢ Miss Work/School pop-up when running a small business (Multiple Packs)
save file fixes
⟢ Endless loading when using Romantic Orientation criteria in custom venues (Base Game, Adventure Awaits)
⟢ Open street objects not being removed after traveling to apartments (Multiple Packs)
⟢ Sims not gaining needs during Away Actions (Base Game, Adventure Awaits)
⟢ Toddler and infant needs not updating at Daycare (Base Game)
base game fixes
⟢ “Fight” interaction now only appears for negative relationships
⟢ Gallery upload button flow improved for PC and Console
⟢ Privacy mosaics now fully fixed for all age groups
ea is still watching these
⟢ Console crashing after update 2.13

✉︎ the real talk
First of all — if you made it this far into my inner monologue… thank you.. lol. I hope you felt informed, maybe a little entertained, and definitely not alone in noticing what’s shifting around us. While some of what I shared today is rooted in prediction (especially around when The Sims 4 might wrap), what I can say for sure is this: Simmer Talk has never just been about The Sims. It’s always been about the ecosystem — the tech, the trends, and the tension between creativity and control. And right now, that tension is louder than ever.
We’re in a moment where cozy games are being scooped up left and right — sometimes privately, sometimes in plain sight. Handheld tech/ AI is evolving, studios are repositioning, and the companies behind our favorite franchises are becoming more centralized than we realized. Whether it's Intel building hardware for the next wave of simulation games, or major funds like PIF quietly holding stock in both the platform and the publisher, the lines are blurring fast. This industry is getting more monopolized — not just in who owns what, but in how games are designed, distributed, and even imagined. That doesn’t mean we panic. But it does mean we pay attention.
And that’s what Simmer Talk is here for. Not to tell you what to think, but to give you space. To ask better questions. To name the patterns. To say, “hey, this feels connected” — even when nobody’s officially said it out loud yet. Because cozy doesn’t mean disengaged. And if we’re going to keep playing, creating, and dreaming in these digital spaces, we deserve to understand the systems shaping them.

When you said, " That doesn’t mean we panic. But it does mean we pay attention." I felt that deeply. Thank you for the updates. Much love.
You're so welcome! 🤍🤍
super informative, thank you!
TYSM & You're welcome. ♡
I am curious how the handheld, IF/when we get it, will handle what hsa previously been stated as "cross platform compatible". From the limited work I have been doing in my side time lately with modeling AI & trying to also learn SQL & Python. Even Jr Dev's are going to have fire in their hair. That's the part that I want to see more on personally. I do love a good chat & spill sesh. <3 you foing doing the heavy digging around.
Girl yes, I’ve been wondering the same thing. Like, “cross-platform compatible” sounds real good on a slide deck, but in real life?? Somebody’s about to be in the code trenches crying. I’ve just been playing around with Python and baby, my brain is already overheating. I can’t even imagine trying to sync mods, saves, and handheld performance all at once. I need to see how they’re really planning to pull this off. And thank you babe!! <33
Thank you for this article, honestly if I ever buy this pack I hope ai isn’t involved at all. Also this laundry looks good for now, let’s hope it doesn’t break too many things.
Well, I'm pretty sure The Sims 4 isn't using anything AI-driven at the moment, as far as creations for EP packs, etc. Now, for future titles like The Sims 5 and more EA games, you can definitely expect that. By the way, you're welcome, Remy. Thanks for engaging with this post—I hope your new year is starting off well. 🤍
Love this! ☕️
Thank you!! ♡
