Base Game Update Incoming: Skin, Style, and Fresh Kits

A Sims 4 News Drop — yes, I left CAS long enough to bring you this update.

Hey babes, ♡

EA’s sliding into our games August 19th with a base game update, and this one’s all about new skin customizations. That’s the headliner for now, though you already know we’ll see more under the hood when it drops. As always: back up your game files. I don’t care how confident you feel — make a copy of that Mods folder, Tray files, and Saves before update day. (Because nothing says heartbreak like losing your 12-hour build and your Simself’s toxic relationship.)

Now, let’s talk about the real fun: two new Creator Kits dropping August 21st.

Meet the Creators Behind the Kits

Before we gush over the goodies, let’s give flowers where they’re due:

Crypticsim — the legend, the moment, the moodboard. If you’ve touched CC makeup in this game, odds are you’ve used something from them. Cryptic is known for giving Sims actual glam looks — bold, trendy, editorial, everything Maxis has been too afraid to do (just sayin). I could fangirl forever, but I’ll just say this: I love that the FIRST makeup Kit is in their hands.

Peacemaker — now, I don’t know about you, but if you’ve ever decorated a Sim’s home with CC furniture, you’ve definitely bumped into their work. Peacemaker’s known for modern, realistic sets that just… make homes look like actual homes. EA picking them for a Build/Buy kit makes total sense.

(Psst: both these creators have Patreons — click their names.)

The Kits Themselves

Essential Glam (by Crypticsim)
Finally — makeup that doesn’t look like crayons. This Kit is basically a full beauty counter: foundations, contour, highlight, faux freckles, beauty marks, soft day looks, bold night glam, smoky eyes, glossy lips, the works. Whether your Sim’s walking down the aisle or walking into graduation hungover, they’ll actually look put together.

Grange Mudroom (by Peacemaker)
This one’s all about making entryways feel lived in. Think built-ins, rustic walls and floors, piles of mail, gumboots kicked off in the corner, hooks for coats, gardening gear — all the cozy clutter that makes a house feel like a home. If you’ve ever wanted to tell the story of a family’s chaos just by looking at their front door, this Kit’s for you.

Quick Reminder: Back It Up

Base game updates love breaking things. This one will shake up CAS, so odds are high CAS-related mods (like custom CC wrenches, sliders, and overlays) may glitch. Don’t gamble. Copy your Mods folder to your desktop before the 19th.

That’s the tea for now. New skin options, new kits, and yes, I’ll be the guinea pig testing CAS chaos when the update hits.

More Soon,

— Ashley aka Simbeautyguru ♡

Thank you so much for this heads up!!! This may sound dumb but why do we copy up our mods folders?

You're more than welcome! It's always a good idea to make a copy for a few reasons. One, if you decide to rebel and skip the updates (totally your call, lol). And two, though rare, sometimes things go haywire, and cc can get overwritten or vanish into the digital abyss. Lastly you honestly just never know what can happen. If copying isn't your thing, just yank all your mods out of the mod folder—and put them on your desktop.
