GAY PRO WRESTLING

If you are a man of a certain age who was attracted to other men, before the internet, Pro Wrestling was your first Gay Porn. The Sears catalog was a nice little treat, every once in a while. There were always a couple pages of men’s underwear. Yeah, it wasn’t easy. We had nothing. There weren’t even X-rated shops until the 1960’s, and even then, they would NEVER have Gay material. Physique Mags were the only other place, and only God knows where those were sold. I never saw them on newsstands back in the day. Not until the Muscle and Fitness magazines went mainstream in the late 70’s.

Anyway, Pro Wrestling was your mainstay. Most of the men in the early days weren’t all that appealing, but there was always one guy who worked out, or two if you were lucky. The first one’s I remember were Eric Pedersen, Handsome Johnny Barend, Pepper Gomez, Sailor Art Thomas, Buddy Rogers, and the French Pro Wrestler Andre Drapp.

Men who regularly worked out were very, very rare before the late 1970’s. You NEVER saw them in real life. Bodybuilder and Weightlifthers were “freaks” looked down upon as “musclebound” dummies, hardly ever on TV or in the movies. But when they were, they were the butt of jokes. If you look up the wrestlers I listed above, they might seem average to you now, but in those days, they really stood out. Men just didn’t lift weights back then. The top male Movie Stars of the 50’s and 60’s were all hideously under-developed. Steve Reeves was the first true Bodybuilder I ever saw, in the 1957 film HERCULES. He was like a revelation. It was as if my sexuality finally made sense. I think Eric Pedersen was the first competitive Bodybuilder to compete in Pro Wrestling in the 1950’s, and Billy “Superstar” Graham was the first one to become widely known in the 1970’s. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that will-built gentlemen became a regular thing in the ring.

Although they weren’t as buff, before the 1980’s, the matches seemed slower and more based on long-held holds like leg scissors, which had a very sexual feel. With the strapping semi-nudity and intimate body contact, it was just one thin layer of fabric away from all-out sex.  Some matches would devolve into a “donnybrook” fistfight, which also seemed very sexual.

One guy would convincingly sell having the crap beat out of him. When he was punched in the gut, over and over, his body would jerk, his butt would buck backward, his head would fly up with his mouth hanging open, and sometimes he’d fall to his knees at the feet of his opponent. Why was this so arousing? A masculine, arrogant, well-built, thick man, with his hands up and his head shaking wildly back and forth, begging for mercy? Because, our minds took us to the next level, where trunks would be ripped off and domination would be perpetrated on the loser. Our imaginations are very powerful things, especially when so hotly charged.

Male vs Male Pro Wrestling is Gay Pro Wrestling. Pro Wrestling is homo-erotic, and the most successful promoters and wrestlers have always understood it. That’s why it eventually evolved into a pageant of male bodies. If it wasn’t homo-erotic, Pro Wrestlers wouldn’t need to sculpt their bodies so beautifully. They wouldn’t need to tan, shave, oil, and wear such sexy gear. They could wrestler fully clothed like football players, American or the other kind.

Sexual attraction exhibits itself on a spectrum. That doesn’t mean that all men will eventually want to have sex with another man. It just means that different manifestations of appeal are instinctually felt by each sexual body. Even if it’s not intellectually realized, it is felt, sometimes on a very subconscious level. Some people’s spectrums are wider than others. It also doesn’t mean that there won’t be some straight men who might want to engage in sexual activities with other men, only in very specific situations, such as in contests of dominance like Pro Wrestling. That is actually a very real thing.

Pro Wrestling isn’t a sport, it’s a fetish. Pro Wrestlers ARE athletes, though. Pro Wrestling is not a competition, but an athletic drama. We will explore this in more graphic detail in future installments.

Whatta ya say? Thank you for reading. Please let me know what you think.

PS. People have been asking about ROWDY ARMSTRONG 3. Yes, it will be out, soon, but it’s release has been pushed back a bit due to dealings with Publishers. We will keep you informed every step of the way!
