Getting a pattern back in print... with some eye candy...

This week, in addition to the giant undertaking of trying to get one of my books back in print, I managed to get one of my older 2017 releases in print for a short run.

When I bring a pattern back up from my older releases, I really like to give it a bit of a once-over and some updating when I can.

I'm still trying to track down a quarterly or magazine feature for this pattern, but while I was hunting my files for this one (I still came up short) I did find some pretty pages from McCall's Magazine from January 1934, just a few pattern number short of this one. The pages were so pretty that I just had to share.

"No. 7647. No one can manage contrast more effectively than Vionnet. Shade against shade ... fabric against fabric ... used according to a design that brings out the best in face and figure."

"No. 7636. As to new details with an assured future, this dress offers an armorlike treatment of the shoulder, the use of cord at neck and wrist, and a girdle-sash with pointed front and buckled back."

"No. 7623. A Gibson girl pleat, if you please, is responsible for those brisk shoulders, and a bodice whose two front sections trail off into liberal tie ends is responsible for that complimentary collar."

"No. 7639. The newest fancy of the bateau neckline is a margin of silver lamé and an extension that swoops down over the shoulders. Rounded godets give the skirt that chic and capricious low flare."

"No. 7637. Lanvin punctuates the sleeve with the suggestion of a point and a lot of shirring. The surplice closing of the bodice is marked with a trio of clips and the waistline calls attention to itself by means of a sash."

"No. 7633. The princess line is the slim line! Here, it is carried out in a pointed panel that does a diminishing act on the figure. Across the back- a belt. At the neckline- a ruff-like collar. On the sleeves -a low puff. "

"No. 7626. To the fore- a typical Vionnet twist to the neckline and a characteristic cut to the bodice. In the back- buttons that form a line from neck to hem. The green on black and silver on rust are two worthy alliances."

Though I can't pull off the broader shoulder look, I really do love the rich, jewel-like colors that they used for their fall/ winter illustrations.

Marvelous, aren't they?

This is lovely 🥰 and much more colorful than the general grayness of today’s winters (honestly people are so fond of black, it is depressing). I do have the pattern for the dress number 7641 but never tried to sew it. Might try that someday. Thank you for sharing 😊
