Which melee weapon would you rely on in a zombie apocalypse? An axe, a baseball bat, a crowbar, a machete, or another solid choice?

If you had to fight for survival, which weapon would you trust the most—an axe, a baseball bat, a crowbar, or maybe a machete among many choices?

In the story, the main character learns from experience. At first, he relies on a baseball bat, an effective blunt weapon against the infected due to their weakened bone structure. But as he begins to face human threats, he quickly realizes that blunt force isn’t always enough.

"What would be your go-to melee weapon in a world overrun by the dead and the wicked?"

Crow Bar for stated reasons above.

I would good with a titanium Bat it's both strong and weightless.

The Stanley Fatmax FuBar 3. Was made for an Apokalypse. But it weighs around 4 kg so it's quite heavy. A Hatchet as Sidearm.

Oh, I had to Google that one! Thanks for making me aware of it. about the hatchet, that has always been my favorite, and it’ll definitely be part of the main character’s arsenal, I even have it already in my assets.

Crowbar. No contest. Heavy enough to bash almost anything, but yet light enough to be wielded comfortably. Also a good tool for a lot of things. No maintenance of any kind needed and rather unbreakable, if you use it within "reasonable" parameters.

Good choice! Unless you do something crazy with it, it’s basically indestructible!

So, the best weapon, especially for someone who hasn't spent years training with melee weapons, is a blunt one. Specifically a simple mace or hammer. No maintenance of edges needed, a mace will not care if you are hitting with the edge, so no worries about edge alignment in chaotic fights, no worries about it snapping under stress, and they are generally a lot lighter than people would assume. You also have the utility of it being able to smash obstacles, or in the case of a hammer being used as a prybar as well.

Dream weapon, a small warhammer, backup choices for ones you could find more easily in the modern apocalypse would be a Framing hammer or a masonry hammer. Framing hammer still has the nail extracting back end, but it comes out straighter and not as curved so it also makes a good spike and is better for prying things. Masonry hammer has a tiny almost hatchet like blade on the back. -Carver from discord

blades are overrated and can dull easily and break even easier since they arent flexible... Hatchet and a Hammer would allow for mass versatility by bashing brains and knees in one hand and carving paths in the other... plus if you throw an axe or hammer they make GREAT projectiles that can be picked back up and reused MANY times and lets face it a flying hammer or axe spinning towards you would make ANYONE flinch or dive aside so also great for distractions and creating openings... so yeah 10lbs Hammer and a Hatchet used jointly

That’s a solid choice! Very versatile, and amazing in close combat. A hammer and hatchet combo gives you plenty of options. Definitely a setup that can handle a lot of tough situations. The Hatchet was planned as one of the main character arsenal. Hope you are having an amazing day Capbluewolf!

Katana because I own multiple 😅. Or a hatchet so I can go all Rick Grimes on some people/zombies. A halberd or a double sided spear for longer reach.

So you will love Akira, as she uses katanas, and her fighting scenes will be very fun to watch, especially in the future when she faces the Manhunter gang with her katanas. The hatchet is my personal favorite!

Something durable and effective like a pinch point crowbar or machete. It'd be silly to go with a katana cuz they're fragile and require a good amount of skill. Axes might get stuck in bodies sooo... they're good at misc tasks, but could be liability against multiple enemies.

M
Mr. Baker (Paused) · February 14, 2025

Yeah, durability and versatility are key. A machete or crowbar can take a beating and stay useful. Katanas need skill and care, and axes might be getting stuck mid-fight. There is a fight where something like that happens.

I am going to have to go with a Katana.

Definitely a hand axe. Easy to obtain. Easy to maintain. Very versatile and doesn’t require high skill lvl to learn

And it can also open paths, good choice!

Axe, it works for everything as a tool or as a weapon and it's easily replaceable
