Gift of Hedone - Ability Types and Categories - Poll

Hello you wonderful deviants,

As some of you may know and others may not, I plan to do 30 abilities (excluding your ultimate)

  • (6 for each of the 5 Affinities (Water, Fire, Earth, Sun, and Moon)

  • that is 2 for each of the 3 subclasses (Warrior, Rogue, Sorcerer)

  • So 10 abilities for each subclass

The abilities would be locked to the subclass, but not the affinity, it is just that the affinity will be associated with the lore and category of the ability. And I am exploring the option of if you use an ability that is earth, and have an earth maiden use it, you would get bonuses.

So I have been trying to figure out how i want to categorise the abilities, as I dont want to just make random abilities as I go, as that could lead to one subclass having much cooler abilities. But regardless, here are the two ideas I have:

Option 1: Even Split

The abilities would be broken into 3 categories:

  1. Single Hit Abilities - Abilities that damage a single target, with a single Hit

  2. Multi Hit/Target Abilities - this is not Area of Effect - but that it is an ability for example that may seek out a number of targets, or pierce through one to another.

  3. Area of Effect (AoE) Abilities - Hitting enemies that are in a given area

This would mean 2 of each of the above types of abilities per Affinity. I thought keeping the categories simple though keeps things less restrictive with the ability ideas.

This would also keep ability categories even across the 3 subclasses

Option 2 - More specific - Uneven Split

I don't know how I would split this categories in type to be honest, but the idea is to have 5 specific categories (this would be based on Affinity) That way the Affinity like Fire, Water, Twilight etc could have some additional character and even Lore for how they fight etc.

BUT the big difference would be that the subclasses would have an uneven split of categories, i.e each subclasses would have more of a certain category than the other subclasses. This could even lean more into some Lore and reason for this, maybe why do certain Affinities gravitate towards certain subclasses.

Do you prefer that, do you think it will make the subclasses feeling more unique, or will this cause the issue and concern I have of one subclass feeling cooler?
