I will also send out emails to everyone that has paid for ES-DE regardless of whether they are staying as paid members or not, but it's the first time I attempt to send an email to thousands of people so please have some patience! This release contains a number of improvements such as support for Android TV devices (Android 11 and above and 64-bit only, such as the Nvidia Shield Pro).

I don't know if you are paying very much for your AWS bandwidth, but I can't recommend Cloudflare R2 enough since it has free egress :D thanks a million for the work and for the slick (and thoughtful) way to get you paid outside of an app store.
Thanks for the suggestion! I have however setup two VMs (VPS) with a local provider where I intend to serve the APKs from. The AWS setup was only an interim solution until that was in place. I still need to configure the redundancy and load balancing but I hope to have that in place before I make the next release so that packages can be provided from the permanent URL instead!

Hello, I was trying to customise the Es menu. My end goal is to run Es and it will straight showing me all the games (indipendetely from which system) all in a rotating menu with big icons (the same way ES shows the Systems to chose from). Is it possible?
You can enable the "All Games" collection to see all your games in one big gamelist. The other thing you mention seems like a theme question and here there is a lot of flexibility. I recommend joining our Discord server where we have a #themes channel to discuss such topics.
Will this support Firestick at any point?
Unfortunately not, unless they move to a 64-bit operating system.
Will you add support for android apps / games, to be added, i have set ES-DE as my launcher using an app, and then another app to add a tile in the swipe down menu, that opens another app, but it would help alot, if it would be possible to add apps / games that is a rom in its own category
Yes this is planned but it's quite a large undertaking so I don't know yet when it will be in place.
For the missing images that es-de cannot find, you can click and search for them with Google and you can download them and have them added automatically. That can be done with the dig app and it is very useful.
Interesting idea, I've never heard about that before. Not sure how to do accurate scraping using a web search engine though. To clarify, ES-DE uses a lot of specific media types like screenshots, title screens, box covers, box back covers, physical media etc, a web search engine would not provide any accurate way of selecting the correct image. So this is probably something that needs to be handled manually.
A drawer to search for games with a part of the name, to be listed and to be able to create or add to a collection. Is it possible?

When i try to play dreamcast using redream emulator, it gives me an "error code -1" the roms is .chd files
If you have an Odin 2 then this is caused by a firmware bug which I think Ayn will fix in the next OS update. i see on the changelog that you remove yuzu on the next update, will it still be there when updating if the files is still there on my device?
No Yuzu will be completely gone with the next update. Your game files will of course not be removed though!
Hi there, ES-DE Android user here. Is there a way to scrape just the ROMs that don’t have any downloaded media? The reason why I’m asking is because during my first scrape a lot of media got missed due to incorrect names and/or metadata. Now that I’ve fixed it I’d like to run another full scrape just for ROMs with missing media. Thank you in advance.
Yes, that's the "Scrape these games" entry in the scraper menu.
How will future updates work? Directly from the app?
I will post here on Patreon with a download link whenever I make a release, so if you are paying member you will see it directly here and get an email from Patreon. For those that have previously been paying members on Patreon I will send an email with the download link, so anyone that has bought ES-DE on Patreon will get future updates. In addition to this there will be a notification inside ES-DE when starting it up, letting you know there is a new release, so that you don't miss it.
Working great on rp4 pro and pixel phone, but it says there's a parsing issue on rp2+
Maybe your RP2+ is running Android 9? That is not supported by ES-DE, 64-bit Android 11 or later is required although I'm working on adding Android 10 support as well. But maybe you could upgrade the device to a newer Android version?
Is there another way to input game description in metadata like copy and paste text? Its a hassle if I input manually in ES-DE app using the virtual keyboard, it will take me hours on typing. I manually created my own metadata of psvita games and the only I am missing is the game descriptions.
You can enable the Android soft keyboard by disabling the "Enable virtual keyboard" setting in the UI Settings menu. But note that there is a bug in the SDL library that causes rendering issues if combining this setting with controller input. Still you should be able to temporarily enable it while you are updating your metadata and then enable it again and restart ES-DE to resolve the rendering problems (like a green border around the screen).

Not yet, but this functionality is planned for a future release. I can't say yet though when it will be available.

Yes this is possible with RetroArch for example but ES-DE is not involved in emulator configuration so you would need to set that up separately.
I have the ayn odin pro 2 build. And I love using your app however adding in ps vita games is a bit of a pain I can see the ps vita on es-de but it won't run the games. I have psvita3k app also installed and if I use that app instead of es-de it works. Can we get a vita running on es-de? If someone has it running on es-de can someone show me a YouTube tutorial on how to properly emulate it on the es-de. I went to the forum page for it and I'm lost on where it said I have to setup the title id
PS Vita games are a bit more difficult to setup due to the nature of the Vita3K emulator. Hi are you planning on an android 10 build of emulation station? I tried installing the apk on my Odin pro (not the Odin 2) and it won’t install

Unfortunately that emulator is currently a bit broken so you can't launch games from a frontend, but if the developer could fix that then I would be very happy to add support for it. There was someone in our Discord server that was going to try to get in contact with the developer but I don't know what happened with that.

After a week, emulation station works great on my Xiaomi pad 5. I have a question: is emulation station able to search games from different directories? Por example internal storage anda external USB Drive at the same time?

There is a easy fix glitch on rg405m. When on set up on select permissions, permissions will already be clicked to accept. Then if you go on it gets stuck on white screen seemingly will not go on. But if you start over and unclick the permissions then hit back go to the accept permission screen click to accept you can finish set up. I heard some people were getting stuck on setup on this device so I bought it to see if I could work it out. This worked for me
Thank you, that is very useful information and something I could perhaps create an FAQ entry for! There seems to be bugs in some specific Android devices that prevents the permission setting screen from working as intended.
I can't make nethersx2, ppsspp, duckstation work, only blackscreen, the roms are in the right folder in ROMs folder. SNES, NDS, GBA, Sega Saturn, NSwitch are working fine. UPDATE Nethersx2/Duckstation/PPSSPP works now One last minor problem is PSVita games works but scraper can't give me videos and images for previews.
Check your bios and make sure they are set up properly. You may have to reinstall the bios files for the PlayStation
After the newest update Dolphin worked for a couple days. Now it goes to open then goes right back to ES-DE and crashes Dolphin. I have to kill the app after that. Dolphin works on its own fine though.
If it worked before and then stopped working it sounds like an emulator issue. Especially if the process is hanging and you have to kill it. Perhaps check with the Dolphin support?

Thank you.. just 2 questions.. 1) Are you able to add 'Android' as a system so we can list android games in it? 2) Is there a way to kill the task for both Dolphin and PPSSPP when we click home instead of manually exiting the app (as the previous played game stays running when trying to launch a new game) ? Because, as of now, it works fine with Nether & Drastic, etc.
1) Yes I plan to add support for launching native Android apps and games but I can't say yet when this will be implemented. 2) I don't like the idea of killing emulators from the frontend, I know Daijishou has functionality for this but I don't agree with this approach. It's better to always get in the habit of exiting your games/emulators completely.
Hi, just downloaded the app and it is awesome :). Great user interface and functionality. I just wanted to check, are you planning on supporting RetroArch Plus from the Google Play Store on Android or did I miss something in the FAQ?
Happy to hear that you appreciate ES-DE! No I actually state in the documentation that the Play store releases of RetroArch are not recommended. They are not up to date and have caused a lot of issues for many people and the version from the RetroArch website has consistently fixed such issues. This is a great app and the experience is exactly the same as I get on my Linux emulation station hand helds. I've seen issues when attempting to start games on the standalone apps: mupen64FZpro, drastic and PPSSPP. However, everything else works and I'm able to launch dolphinMMJ, AetherSX2, Duckstation and CitraMMJ.

I tried adding it but I couldn't get it to work. It seems pretty ancient, maybe it hasn't been updated to work correctly on recent Android releases, at least not when executed from a frontend.

No it will not remove anything in the ES-DE directory. You will need to download your themes again though.

Yes you need to completely uninstall the Amazon Appstore version before installing the Patreon version. This is a one-off thing, for future releases you'll be able to just install the new version on top of the old one.
I dont wana lose Yuzu in ES-DE what should I do? Avoid update? Uncheck auto updates?

No you just apply the update by running the APK and all your settings and games and scraped media will be retained.
Please add YabaSanshiro 2/2 Pro as standalone alternative emulator. Also add Mame 2003 non plus core as an option as well. Thanks. Great work by the way.
Yaba Sanshiro 2 is broken, it needs to be updated to work properly with ES-DE. Someone in our Discord server is trying to get in touch with the developer so it could get updated. If that's done I could add support for it. MAME 2003 I'll look into, but you are the first person ever to request that actually.

Citra MMJ should work, but as things stand now with Nintendo and Citra it's probably best to not touch it at all.

I don't know when it comes to Obtanium, I have not researched it yet. Same with native Android support, it's planned but I can't say yet when it will be in place.

I will remove support for Yuzu since it apparently can't be used legally any longer, but for Citra I haven't heard anything that indicates that it's not perfectly legal and fine to use. So unless I receive some more clarification around that emulator I'll leave it in.

Works perfectly on my retroid plus 3 but on my Odin 2 pro redream will not open Dreamcast games I have to use fly cast. Not a big deal but thought I would make it known if you did not read about that bug yet. Thank you for your work

LOVE the frontend...really REALLY wish I could access games NOT stored in the default ROMS folder...allll my psx and saturn are on my Odin 2 hard drive...so they dont even show up which then mandates me crawling back to Daijisho for those. PLEASE help!

Hi. I noticed that when scraping it will pause if you turn your screen off or move to a different app. Is there a workaround for this?
No it's how Android works essentially, the activity lifecycle concept. You don't want apps to keep running and drain your battery when they are not actively displayed. But ES-DE should keep your screen awake unless there is some setting in Android I'm not aware of that can still force the OS to lock it. You could also scrape on Linux, macOS or Windows, ES-DE works on all these platforms and the file structure and such is identical for your media and gamelist info.

My understanding about patreon is that future posts will be exclusive to the ongoing membership holders as we still have the 1 month sub for now. After that how we will have access to such posts for updates? Do you have the option to send to pervious members? Or how?
Yes I think so too, so I don't think I need to send out a lot of emails right now after all as Patreon already did that for me. What I'll do after the one month is to send out emails outside Patreon to everyone that paid once. There is a "last charge" date column that I may be able to use when exporting the list of members. I'll figure it out somehow.

Would it be possible for you to create a json import list for obtanium of the standalone emulators that are used in emulation station? This would be a killer app and decrease configure time significantly. Love your work!
