ES-DE 3.1.1-39 is now available for download
We're happy to announce that ES-DE 3.1.1-39 for Android is now available for download!
This release adds translations for German, Korean, Dutch and Catalan, reduces the application memory footprint, enables a number of new emulators and fixes numerous bugs.
The default audio driver has been changed from AAudio to OpenSL ES which should decrease audio latency on many devices. There is however a new menu entry in the Sound settings menu that makes it possible to easily revert to AAudio in case of issues with the OpenSL ES driver.
This release also brings experimental support for running ES-DE in multi-window mode on devices that have this functionality enabled by the hardware manufacturer.
There are many additional improvements, see the Changelog for all details.

Thanks for this app. AI says that I need this specific build of the app for my Galaxy s10e running one UI 4.1 and Android 12 so that it can run on Dex mode. Can someone confirm if this build is still available in 2026?
It's available in the sense that it's still hosted on our secondary package download server and if you want the direct URL then please send us a DM. But this build is ancient now as it's from more than 2.5 years ago so it's missing a lot of features and it's possible that few, if any, of the themes in the theme downloader even works on this release. This is ultimately a Samsung policy issue as they allowed DeX mode for ES-DE and other apps that can be set as the home app only from One UI 8.0 instead of applying the policy retroactively. This is understandable though as they no longer support the older OS releases.
It would be very helpful to have a video on how to set up two folders on separate drives

I am having a couple of issues that I totally don't understand. Cemu and yabasanshiro 2 pro don't work when selecting games through es-de but when I go to the emulators themselves they populate with games and load. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, thanks for this awesome software! Quick question, is there a way to play music in the ES-DE menu? I can do this on my retropie but I can't figure out how to do it on ES-DE. I didn't see any mention of adding menu music in the android guide. Thank you for your time.

this is very impressive port! I love that my Pixel 6a & an 8BitDo Lite is a complete retro museum in my pocket! I've gotten 74 of 83 systems I've thrown at it so far working. I haven't had any luck getting vintage computers like coco & apple2 w the MAME4droid method (plenty of 0.275 arcade ROMs that depend on bios files launch just fine). All in all, having already ramped up on Batocera Linux & ES-DE in macOS made configuring Android pretty straightforward. Look forward to contributing new systems & the tweaks I added to get a few to work so others can benefit. again nice job Leon!
When I launch games on AetherSX2 via ES-DE, the states and saves aren't available. This issue doesn't exist when I launch a game directly on AetherSX2. Any solution?

I'm having issues on a Retroid Pocket 5. Using the default Retroarch n64 core from the Retroarch app works correctly, but the controls are disabled when launching from ES-DE. I do not get the usual message saying the controller has been configured.
I think there is some kind of issue with the N64 cores that can be resolved via some setting inside RetroArch. I recommend joining our Discord server to get support, someone there should hopefully be able to help you resolving this issue: https://discord.gg/42jqqNcHf9
Anyone else having issues when trying to launch games? RetroArch is opening for me but that's it, it doesn't load the ROM. If I use RetroArch directly, or even another frontend it's working, but Emulation Station simply refuses to run anything.

Hi, no you can install ES-DE on as many of your own devices as you want, no need to buy a second license.
Could we please have a Samsung DeX compatible fork of ES-DE? 🙏🙏🙏 Some Samsung devices (like my Tab S9) force the user to run DeX in order utilise USB-C to HDMI video out. The problem is that DeX blocks any app which can be set as the launcher/home app from opening.
Like you mention this is not an ES-DE limitation but due to a policy that Samsung has set. It would be quite problematic to have two versions of ES-DE with and without home app support as we would need to have two completely separate apps on the Galaxy Store and on Patreon. I would say it's not feasible unfortunately.

I have a question I have ES-DE on my Ayaneo Pocket DMG and everytime I turn the device on ES-DE makes me pick a path for everything again Normally once I hit “select path” or whatever it just boots into what I already had but twice now it’s fully reset everything so all it keeps is my ROMs. Metadata, alternative emulators, my themes, all that gets reset

Is there any way to only scrape games with missing media. It seems I have to rescrape all roms regardless if they've already been successfully scraped.

Your work is much appreciated as a regular user of ES on all plateform, you made my Retroid pocket 5 Amazing. Few comments and feedback ( i use a classic ES Structure shared with Batocera, Rocknix and Recalbox, and all work fine ): - M3U files are not recognized ( big deal for multi disc game ) ES normally give priority to M3U the listed disc files. - Cannot hide folder with inner file priority in the interface. - Cannot hide systems ( when unwanted ) - Cannot hide system files in lists ( like each arcade sis in MAME ) - Though AMIGA cd32 roms laucnh, the scraper function does not recognize the CUE/Bin file format - AMIGA500 folder does not appear ( 1200 is ok ) - Apple 2 Appear but do not offer the right Emulators to run, same for MAC.. ( MAME2014 is not a good option...doesnt work ) - Daphne classic ES structure is not recognized - Dosbox does not take folder, creating a mess to launch ( not sure why...same problem as Daphne or SCUMMVM ) - Lutro s not working, does not offer alternative in emulator choice ( no lutro ) - MSU1 Super nintendo do not appear ( or are mixed in snes folder, but they don't seem to have the MSU audio ) - For SCUMM the folder appear, not the inner launcher. Making the scraper scrape twice. Besides the games won't launch, though they work fine in - Pico8 do not run the games ( any of the emulators are launching image viewer ) Hope this was not to loong...i really want to help improve this amazing work you do like i did for Batocera and Recalbox
Thanks for the detailed feedback! However most of the issues you list must be due to some kind of configuration problem as they most definitely work and if setup correctly there are no double entries and such. Some things are different by design though compared to Batocera and Recalbox, like some system names as ES-DE was originally based on RetroPie EmulationStation and therefore use those system names. I'm also not sure what you mean with "classic ES structure" but like mentioned the system names are based on what RetroPie uses in most cases. I recommend joining our Discord server where someone should be able to help you resolve the configuration isues to get all the systems to work. I'm also very interested in hearing about additional emulators for the apple2 and lutro systems as I'm not aware of those being available on Android. But it's of course very possible that I've missed some. As well m3u files are generally supported for all systems where the emulators can launch such files but if you could let me know which systems should have them in addition I can for sure add them in. Hello... I wanted to install es-de APK on my TCL C839. Unfortunately without success. Neither directly nor ADB method succeeded. In the ADB shell it says: install_failed_no_matching_abis failed to extract native libraries, res=-113 What does this mean?

JoiPlay doesn't have frontend support, but if they implement that then I'll be happy to include support for it in ES-DE.
Love the updates and dedication. I'm the android version, is there anyway to display the battery level on the main ESDE screen?
I'm happy to hear that you appreciate ES-DE! To display system information like network/Wifi, battery levels etc. is something that may come eventually as it's on the Kanban board, but I'm not sure yet when it will get implemented. I'm also not 100% sure how feasible it is as I need to research it a bit first.

When I exit games on Dolphin it exits on the app instead of ES-DE. Is there a setting for that? All of the emulators work fine except for Dolphin.
