Happy Halloween

I just wanted to thank everyone for being patient with me. While I'm still focusing on other things right now, I'm slowly trying to wean myself back into something resembling a schedule. I'll try to stream a bit more in the future, and hopefully I'll find the time to throw together a video on Alchemy Factory, since I played it and enjoyed it a fair bit, despite its rough exterior.

This is also apparently the last time I'll need to charge individually for a month since Patreon's changing their system. I liked my old system of charging for finished videos or at least when I was working between big videos like the SE or Seablock series, and that personal responsibility to deliver kept me motivated early on, but for the last year or so it kind of went from a motivator to a stress inducer. I always liked the expectation that I only get Patreon money when I'm "providing" something to make it worth someone's while, but I've just got to accept that some people want to support me.

Even though I felt like I needed to do this, it's not a good feeling seeing all those metrics on my Youtube stats trending down. That's how they trap you in the cycle until you burn out, and it's always heartening to know that even if I didn't have Youtube at all, just the outsized support I receive from you all would be enough to keep me wanting to do this.

I've been enjoying my time away immensely, but the siren call of making videos so that people can listen to my dumb opinions and gameplay is calling. It's not as loud as before, but I'll be back!

Hey, your videos convinced me to get over my analysis paralysis for Factorio. As a man who was introduced to the genere with Satisfactory, Factorio scared me cause it was a factory game with pressure. But now, I’m mostly over it. It’s still not a game I play in any methods but large bursts, but I enjoy it now, and it’s climbing my ranks.

Actually I think the stream hurt your Youtube stats since a lot less people watch it and it count as a normal video for some reason

Iron Nest video would be awesome though maybe after the singular dev add the planned features

I’m too busy playing Nullius badly to watch YouTube. Take it easy, and retain your sanity for when something really grips you and forces you to make a video.

Taking care of yourself is always the priority as far as I am concerned and I honestly believe this opinion applies to the vast majority of us who enjoy your content regularly. We will be waiting to enjoy what your next videos are when you are ready! Also just wanted to say thank you for the many nights of easy sleep i've gotten from your factorio videos, I still watch them back for fun at times too, but it really is just the thing some days, being able to get my brain to actually shut off and sleep is always something I will appreciate. Though the dreams can be a little strange lol

Yeah, I've seen a few youtubers hit the falling edge of the wave where their numbers start dropping because they've drifted out of sync with the zeitgeist, their audience left for other and maybe greener pastures, or The Algorithm just turned on them. They try to compensate by working harder, longer, stronger, possibly faster ... and then crash and burn because working hard and making good videos doesn't necessarily translate to more success even if you survive it. Grit might help, but it also might not. Not sure I really have a helpful comment to make here. Try not to tie your self identity or personal finances to the vagueries of a social media platform? Not that I think you're doing that Realistically your patreon probably will take a hit if you don't make videos at the same pace and some people go "wait why am I following that guy" but, I mean, don't burn out for that either. You're not in debt to your audience, we're getting videos out of you after all. If upcoming financial concerns mean that you have to spend less time making videos and more time doing normal computer engineering then that's not a failure on your part, it's just that for most people "being a successful youtuber" really means "being an insignificant gig economy worker with no job security, working for a multimedia tech giant that may decide to squash you like a bug for inscrutable reasons" and that sucks.

I have actually been going through your old videos, and have been sharing the ones touching on game design (like Marrow) with a friend of mine who wants to become a indie game dev. The insights are extremely valuable, but that's something no YouTube metric will ever capture - so I wanted to tell you here. You are an inspiration, even if you don't feel it sometimes.

I look forward to your videos, be it monthly or after a few months. Worst case scenario i'll still be falling asleep to La Mulana for the umpteenth time.

See you somewhere after Christmas. January is always low on content so you will have our undivided attention if you drop it then. 😉

Hey man, it's fine to take your time. I follow 5 Factorio ytber (you included) and each of them has a 2-5 month delay between videos, which makes it even better when one releases. Take your time.

I liked how you created your first videos about Factorio. It was basically a showcase of mods. Maybe you can do return to simpler videos and mods. There are mods that I feel deserve another chance too and more videos.
