Background Matters

Now that Backgrounds have been uncoupled from your class selection, we're curious what you've all been choosing as your Champion's Background (or which you most often choose, if you're running a multitude of heroes). Let us know where your Champions come from!

Elf Hunter Thief, chaotic greyish Blademaster Champ all the way. Doing some maybe morally dubious things for the right reasons. Or just for fun.....And sometimes fraternization with demons can't be avoided, some are just too hot.
Noble scion so I makes sense why I have all the money 😂
I've used each one at least once. It really depends on what I have in mind for that character i.e. for Orcs I usually go for Hunter/Soldier/Barbarian or Arcanist/Acolyte/Scholar if I have something like Druid in mind. And Courtesan is simply the "Gotta Sex 'em All!" character regardless of class and race. Fluffy Brint-sized Demon Manticore Hybrid :P
I usually gravitate towards a Paladin like character, so I seem to be one of the few acolytes
Noble Scion for the flex, but I hate the bonus point into presence since I don't typically run that, a lot of times for pure min maxing I run arcanist/Scholar because of the cunning or int point since divine spell blade is my favorite archetype to run. Courtesan, if I'm running a "bang the marches" character just because it's super fitting, and I've run slum rat a couple times on a Kitsune bind just because I like the rags to riches style. Honestly, overall, though, there's very little flavor text throughout that informs the champion's dialogue. I've definitely noticed some call-outs here or there, but it's not enough that I won't just choose solely based on the min-maxing side of things. Not sure if it's even logical at this stage of development but I never really felt like it mattered outside of the free bonus point, and not that I've ever played on the hardest difficulty, but I imagine it's even MORE important there to choose a class and background to be able to get through the game easier.
Soldier, usually a big beefy elf girl who ends up subbing to Etheryn.
Based mine off a long time OC of mine, so its Soldier. Though I kinda wish I could choose "Colonist" for the Kitsune homeland :P They do have a large human population after all if I remember correctly!
noble scion or courtesan. have more general impact thought the game then just combat
If I go Black Mage it's Acolyte and if it's Rouge then it's Hunter
Noble Scion.i always play an incredibly corrupted character in these types of games so playing a noble character fits for me.playing a noble that had a hidden dark side that they finally let into the open and get corrupted fits so well imo
Noble Scion. i always had a soft spot for stories about folks defying their "natural" place in life to find their own even when coming for a place of plenty.
Hunter, Arcanist, Barbarian. i love playing a barbarian "shaman" (white/black mage) or well i pretend it is that anyway.
Hunter, Barbarian, Soldier.
i choose minstrel since i hate to fail a pc.canDance check
I'm a big slum rat fan. The Champ managing to pull themselves out of that and managing to stay heroic just puts a smile on my face.
Shiii, i play on 2 chars (Male Soldier Warrior or Female Thief/Soldier Hunter), so i guess Im picking the more "hours put into" char
Noble. I enjoy the flavor for jt, and it feels more natural for a Champ to be a minor noble then a Baron/ess
depends on what i'm feeling for a particular character.
Could this be the only game where "human - male - fighter" doesn't end up on top?
Scholar Black Mage elf. I am the ultimate nerd, ready to be absolutely bullied into submission.
Minstrel, the typical DnD bard that can and will lay with anything be it animate, inanimate, living or dead
Slum Rat, Hunter, Archanist
Barbarian, Slum rat and Arcanist
Noble, Arcanist, and Soldier.
The courtesan, usually. You can magic in many games, but you can't slut it up in them, so might as well go in specializing in what you can't get in Oblivion.
Noble Scion, Like the 2nd or 3rd Son of a Minor Royal with no real prospects of becoming the Head of the House. So my player took his knowledge and training on the road to gain fame, riches and infamy through adventure.
Acolye, hunter and noble scion are my most common choices
Decided to make druid-like mages through the use of hunter and white or black mage
I am playing as a holy healing warrior build. So...noble would be the best description.
Always Acolyte, I feel like the whole forbidden love + push for redemption with Kas just flows naturally as an Acolyte/WHM. Rocking my Paladin is just a narrative *chefs kiss*
I pick between Noble or Barbarian put i like the orc race so mostly I choose Barbarian!
I’ve always picked courtesan. It contextualizes the characters boundless promiscuity, and leads to funny “hello, I am the Champion of Frost, Arena Champ, Marcher Baroness, lover of many….. and a former prostitute!” Scenarios.
Courtesan is fun for the few extra bits of dialogue you get about having professionally slept around the nobility. Love to feel like an *accomplished* slut
Last I played, I had two champions. One was a monk. Or as close as I can get to one. So I gave them a soldier background. The other was Witcher like. So I picked hunter background.
Background doesn't really seem to matter aside from +1s and the odd mention in some dialogue so I usually pick Arcanist or Minstrel since they feel more fitting and are the base for the two classes I usually pick.
Im a wizard, Harry
