Mod: Gradual Aging
Updated 8/20/25: Updated for compatibility with the latest patch, and changed skin detail slots to be compatible with more overlays. Wrinkles now take up the Forearm Scar slot and gray hairs will take up the Mole (Left Cheek) slot.
Sul-sul! I'm back with another slice of life type mod. This one was so much fun to figure out!

Features:
The Gradual Aging Mod allows your Young Adult and Adult Sims to gradually age from one life stage to another. The in-game Adult and Elder wrinkle overlays will fade in over time, and sims may get periodic buffs - happy or sad - about how their body is changing. There is a purchasable trait in the rewards store ("Ageless") that allows your Sims to be exempt from this aging process. This mod is base game compatible.
There are two optional packages: gray hair and treatments. If you have the optional hair package installed, gray hairs will slowly start to fade in after your Sim becomes an adult. Treatments allow your Sims to fight the aging process by dyeing their hair and getting skincare treatments to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. But watch out - the treatments may not always go as intended...
Requirements:
Gradual Aging is base game compatible, but requires the XML Injector. If you do not already have a copy in your game, you can get it here.

Notes: The wrinkles will not show up in CAS because they are added as hidden buffs to your Sims in game. They still exist in the world and in icons, but they won't appear when designing your Sim. Also, the gray hair package is optional because the hair overlay doesn't mesh well with all hairs. I made it in a way that it will look good (to me) on most maxis hairs, but unfortunately because of the variety in UV mapping, it isn't possible for me to make one overlay that works perfect on every hairstyle. Depending on which hairs you use most often, you can decide whether you want to delete this package or not.

Hey this mod is causing simulation lag, is there any fix?
I just found a missing buff icon: laugh lines (from noticing wrinkles) shows the llama icon instead of a proper one. Just wanted to let you know. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Can I still use this mod with the current update we have had
My German translation: https://www.curseforge.com/sims4/translations/gradual-aging-by-janesimsten-german-translation-translated-by-simsyju
ive been getting an exception for this mod, its been causing me simulation lag unfortunately :( could be related to the new update? most likely anyway lol
Question does this mod still work with the aging turned off?
I played around with your mod and the in-game shaving feature again and did some more extensive testing this time. I found the following issues: Young adults: a) If the sim already has a beard in CAS, shaving this beard in-game works correctly and the visual refresh happens as expected. b) However, if a sim who already has a beard in CAS grows a longer beard in-game, the refresh does not work. You need to go through a loading screen to force the refresh. c) If the sim has no beard in CAS and grows a beard in-game, shaving and the refresh work fine. Adults: a) The shaving refresh always works correctly. b) However, if the sim has no beard in CAS, facial hair growth does not work at all. c) If the sim already has a beard in CAS, facial hair growth works as expected. I would be so, so happy if you could fix this!
I'll take a look! Thank you for the extensive testing, it really helps narrow down what's going on
Are there wrinkle treatments
Hey! I just wanted to post a little bug report here: After extensive testing I found that this mod sometimes causes some skin details to stop appearing in live mode and makes the crafted jewelry from Crystal Creations not function properly anymore (it can't be worn or taken off, only going into CAS will make it visible and makes you able to remove it). These bugs only happen to sims that I have played with a lot and the freckles skin detail not being visible affected only one sim only (I know that's oddly specific.), so it doesn't affect all sims. I love this mod and your work SO much, so if you ever consider taking a look at this, I would highly appreciate it <3
Amazing mod ❤️ Does it work with mccc extended lifestages?
Can you use this mod with skin overlays?
This is soooo AMAZING!!
Hi! Are there any cheats to set the stages manually?
Would it be possible to have hair continue to grey into elder-hood rather than turning completely gray the moment they age up? No worries if not; just curious. Love, love, love your mods!!!
Hi there :) I'm a bit late to this mod but does it work with skin overlays?
Would you consider incorporating countless number of wrinkles through (Creases that could crop up Forehead lines: run horizontally across the top of the T-zone Worry lines: create an “eleven” between the brows Bunnies: etch the bridge of the nose horizontally between the eyes Crow’s feet: radiate from the outer corners of the eyes Laugh lines: also called nasolabial folds, create parenthesis around the upper lip Lip lines: form vertical hatches around the perimeter of the mouth Marionette lines: frame the chin vertically, and as the cheeks droop, jowl wrinkles form Was this helpful? The folds or furrows that might bedeck our faces fall into two categories: dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles. These develop from repeated facial movements. If you pucker your lips around a straw frequently, for example, you might get lip lines. Static wrinkles. These result from a loss of elasticity and the takeover of gravity. Wrinkles that come with jowls are static. Dynamic wrinkles can become static wrinkles over time. Fine smile lines morph into more prominent nasolabial folds when our cheeks lose plumpness and do a slight plummet in middle age.)
((Provide (Glogau Wrinkle Scale for males and females, Fabi-bolton chest skin wrinkles and breasts skin wrinkles scale for females, Ptosis scale of breasts sagging for females, and Crepey skin grades for femalse and males))(Provide very extremely excessive visualiz detail and very extremely excessive detail visualization beaugliful outward appearance) Here is more suggestions
Thank you so so much for updating the mod! The 50% Elder overlay is working perfectly fine now, same for shaving. The only thing is I think my sim isn't growing a beard anymore. I played him for a whole sim week (facial hair growth activated) and no sign of a beard. I did not do any proper testing this time though, I just continued playing with all my mods. I do like your mod better than the shaving so I could live with it if I had to choose but as shaving is a game feature it would be nice to have both.
Hello, I have just found your mods, and I think they are great! I have a question about the buffs: is it possible to cheat them to show up in a sim at a certain %, or at all? I usually play with aging off and age my sims up manually, so it would be awesome if I could add those details to my sims as the seasons go by.
Hi, I love this mod, exactly what I wished for. But the em50 overlay seems to be broken. Just wanted to let you know. Besides this, the effect of shaving is only visible after reloading the household in case an overlay is applied. It would be great if there was a fix for that.
Hi, thank you so much for the report on this, I didn't realize there was a bug with shaving. Does it affect all Sims or only the ones with overlays? I'll look into this this week - thank you for your help!

Sims 3 Age Mod in Sims 4 style? SIGN ME UP
Of all your amazing mods, this one blew me away! Great job and thank you so much for all your hard work!
OMG I have been wanting this in my game for so long. You are seriously my favorite Sims 4 modder. Thank you very much!
Hello, a question that I would like to know before trying this beautiful mod, does this mod work with CC hair because of the gray hair issue, since I don't usually use the hair from the game, let me know?
Hi, thanks for checking! It does work on cc hair, but the issue is the same, it depends on how the creator did the uv mapping. If the strands go up/down in the uv map it'll look great, if they go right/left it won't look as good. My advice would be to try it and remove if you don't like how it looks (it doesn't cause problems to delete after the overlay has been added, it just disappears).
Hello, I have a question : If an adult with the "gray hair" feature has a baby, is there a risk the baby will have "gray hair" as well ?
Hi! Good question. No, the aging buffs aren't genetic, they get added in a script when the Sim loads into a lot, so it will only ever affect adults who are 50% through their age progression.
This is phenomenal! Thank you for creating this!
Hi! Thank you for making such an amazing mod that enhances storytelling so much! I have a dumb question though - where can I find skincare treatments? I tried the order option as well as clicking on the mirror but didn't find anything related. Should I just use masks from spa day pack (but I suppose not since this mod is bgc)? Any guidance please?
Hi! Good question! The skincare treatments are actually rabbitholes, not home treatments. They can be accessed on the phone! I should look into lotions for a future update 🙂
This looks amazing! It's going straight into my game. :)
*blink, blink, blink* WOWZER!!! Thank you!
