If you're here watching this, welcome! This is something I will do from time to time with a video that may not function as well on youtube due to a myriad of reasons. If sections of a non-gamer vid appear here they will be available for free. if you'd like to support with a membership to Patreon, I welcome it, but it is entirely up to you. :)

Just saw this and it was a great watch! Hope you saw that Yoko Kanno released a video of Tank! being played at a Japan Jazz Fest in 2024, it’s even better watching it played live!! https://youtu.be/d75ov4HvRrM?is=F_e1v2BpS1OjIU0T
I kinda find it crazy to think a sax professor wouldn't know TANK!. Its kinda the epitome of a modern/contemporary jazz standard.
The lead sax player on this is none other than the legendary Masato Honda. He played with one other most renowned jazz fusion groups in Japan, T-Square. He also has some amazing solo albums. If you have ever found yourself tapping a toe to mario kart music you gotta have a look at his solo stuff. Some truly peak musicianship.
Me who watched Bebop back in 1998 finally finding out exactly what a Bebop even is
Bebop style you say? Perhaps a Cowboy Bebop even? Great analysis as always. Love seeing people geek out for their crafts.
Also, another funny connection here from mentioning how the "great soloists and musicians became a genre unto themselves" is a bit similar to the text that is portrayed in the background scenery of the Tank OP, which basically says: "Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941... at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named "Minston's Play House" in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They're eager to play jazz more freely as they wish then... in 2071 in the universe... The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship "BEBOP", will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP"
Speaking of Charlie Parker, he's who Jet was referencing in episode 3 in the elevator with Spike going into the casino talking about his dream.
i freaking LOVE these. played alto and tenor sax in high school and saw immediately when his face lit up lol
