I'm glad you guys watched this episode!!! Yeah, Subaru's "episodic memory loss" reasoning was an excuse to explain why he knows their names and stuff. We know that he didn't know their names when he first lost his memories. He knows it now because of Return by Death. Subaru knows about Elsa's killing method because of Meili's book of the dead in episode 10. He lived her entire life, so he's witnessed Elsa's signature killing method. And for Meili, she's 1 year older than Petra. Petra is 13 right now, so Meili is 14. There was a 1 year time skip in between season 2 and 3, meaning that Meili was 13 when she attacked Subaru and the others, and Petra was 12 when she became a maid at the mansion. So I'd say Meili is definitely a child, but she's old enough to know right from wrong. She only got the idea of killing Subaru when he mentioned that he lost his memories. That's why she never killed him before. As you said, it was impulsive. She didn't truly want to kill Subaru.

Know a lot of people seem to have already mentioned Meili’s book of the dead - and while I think it’s important for the explaining the info he knows… I think it’s even more important for explaining why Subaru is so patient with & willing to work with Meili. He understands how she thinks & where her heart is better than anyone. She has a bit of a facade that mimics Elsa in her mannerisms- but… she is just a kid (Petra is like 13-14 & I think they’re close in age, but since she was raised by wolves or whatever I doubt we know her exact age. I’d guess like 12?), & not everything was a lie. Subaru made her a bunch of stuffed animals and they did bond a bit over the time skip. So, it’s not like this was pre-meditative & she’s been awaiting her moment to kill him… it was impulsive lashing out in the only way she really knows how. She & her powers are pivotal to this mission in the tower (getting here & leaving relies on her heavily), but even without that aspect… I think Subaru would still want to help her grow up in a good way.

Subaru prob remember elsa belly tendency from meili book of the death from previous loop. Remember meili was with elsa almost her entire life, which make sense for her to know elsa hobby.
