I have been binge watching this series just to see your reactions, love them! I wonder, how would you rank the seasons so far? excluding 4 because it's not complete perhaps, but still.

1 then 3 then 2 but this one is setting up to be a banger!!

I may be wrong, but I feel like you are grossly overestimating Shaula's mental capacity. The girl literally got told to shoot anything that approached for 400 years and just did it, then immediately went "Okaaay!~" when the first person who *smelled* like her master showed up and told her "hey don't do that."

I got so excited by the riddle! Something that Subaru gets a little wrong and neglects to finish the story. The scorpion was sent by Apollo (there's different versions of this as is the nature of folklore, but I'm going to tell the most commonly told version) Orion tried to seduce Artemis (some say he succeeded and took the virgin Goddess' virginity. Others say he took it by force) so Apollo sent the scorpion, known as Scorpio in the 12 Astrology signs. It chased Orion all across the world until, exhausted, Orion tried to flee from it into the sea. Before the scorpion could kill him, Artemis/Apollo shot Orion with an arrow (Artemis in the version where he assaulted her. Apollo in the other ver. there is a version where the Scorpion does kill Orion, but that came much later after the Romans appropriated the Greek folklore) because of the arrow wound, Orion drowns and the scorpion drowned with him. They were both turned into stars (in one ver. by Artemis, in another, by Athena who favored him, and another it was a gift/curse from Zeus) but the scorpion chases Orion eternally in the stars, which is why some of Orion's stars disappear on occasion. It represents either his death in his head getting shot off by the magic arrow, or him bobbing under the water to hide from the scorpion. This is why Scorpio's are thought of as tenacious and unrelenting, sometimes obsessive with their interests. ☺️ one of my favorite Astrology folktales besides that of Castor and Pollux, the Gemini twins.

Oh, and the other reason Orion dies that has to do with the bobbing star.. in that version, Artemis loved Orion, so she tried to save him while he bobbed under, but just as she shot her arrow, the scorpion drowned and Orion's head bobbed back up just in time to be shot off. Or in another way of telling it, she couldn't tell if it was Orion or the stinger head of the scorpion, so she shot and it ended up being Orion. This is such a cool little connection to the show because that's what was happening to Subaru when they were approaching the tower. They were just bobbing specks in a sea of sand and he was getting beheaded by an "arrow" shot by someone that believes themselves to be close to him. The "arrow" never misses too (granted it was hitting others or being swatted away) which is the story of Artemis' bow. She will never miss a shot with her bow.

We also have an idea of other people from the other world. Flugel, Al, and Hoshin last season Subaru made the comment that the inn they were staying at looked Japanese and Anastasia told him how Kararagi looks like that after Hoshin founded it

oh man yo're in for a ride! This arc of Re;Zeros going to be awesome! PS. Shaula is best girl!

Shaula mentions that her old master specifically ordered her to shoot anyone outside the tower. Because of that, while it’s still strange, I do think the reason she shot Subaru was simply that she was continuing to follow those old orders. Maybe she didn’t expect to actually kill him, or assumed her master had some deeper reasoning behind it, but I really think that’s all there is to it on Shaula’s end. I do think it’s odd for Flugel to give that order, though. Did he plan to never return to the tower, or did he just assume it was implied that Shaula wouldn’t shoot at him? I agree with what you guys pointed out; Shaula’s personality, and the colors in her outfit do resemble Subaru a lot! Even the way she gave her sniper attack a cheesy name ("Hell's Snipe" and "Invisible Providence") and casually used a bit of English ("no problem") fits that parallel. But on the flip side, ordering someone to kill anyone who approaches indiscriminately, and then abandoning them alone for 400 years is really cruel and callous. It really doesn’t sound like something I’d ever imagine Subaru doing. I have a hard time believing that Flugel is Subaru, but it's so hard to overlook those similarities. Ugh, figuring out the connection, if any, with Al was already hard enough 😭

I personally think it's really funny that Shaula had all this time to think about things and yet she didn't. Head empty only shoot.

We learned way back in the first OVA, Memories Snow, that Subaru is a huge nerd when it comes to stars, in no small part due to the fact that his parents named him after a star cluster, “Subaru.” This makes me wonder if a random person was brought to this world in S1 that just happened to be Subaru, or if Subaru was specifically chosen for his personality and knowledge of the stars. I agree with Wes. The way Shaula paused when she took in Subaru’s order makes me uneasy. It could just be that she always approaches her master’s orders with that level of gravitas and seriousness, but I could definitely see it implying that, under different circumstances, she might have hurt them, and that Subaru’s order changed things.

Kamy · May 1, 2026

To your point about Shaula feeling like Subaru, in japanese the way she speaks also feels a lot like Subaru (she uses English a lot or has a way to use verbs with a distinct 'su' at the end)

Flugel aside from planting the big tree was named directly by Betelgeuse in the season 2 flashback during Emilia's trial. He was the one who gave Geuse the Sloth factor to hold onto so that he could eventually take it in.

N
Nostalgino MO · May 1, 2026

theory is that flugel is subaru who went back in time, and the reason subaru knows so much about stars is because he had a school project about the subject where he found out his name as the name a star cluster and got heavily invested in the topic

R
Renden · May 2, 2026

Wild theory but I like it

M
Mad4Life · April 30, 2026

I'm not sure if Shaula knows about return by death but she's literally just following the orders Flugel gave her to shoot anyone who approaches. I think even if Shaula thought Subaru was her master, she most likely believes he would never let himself be killed by her attacks, which is why she had no issue attacking him.

Also, Rigel is NOT Regulus. but you guys will find out why in 30 years or so. (beside the fact regulus is already a star name)

V
Vinícius da Silva dos Passos · April 30, 2026

Flugel was mentioned to be the one who planted the great tree and was also mentioned in Emilia's flashback by Geuse and in Liliana's flashback by her. The star Rigel is not Regulus, Regulus has his own star named Regulus.

K
Kindyh Bordat · April 30, 2026

Small detail, Shaula technique name is "Hell's Sniper" in English. And the only people who know English are people from the real words or those in direct contact with them like Roswaal. Also you mentioned it, but what would be the coincidence for Flugel to wait for someone from the other world, WITH so much knowledge in astronomy from his world?

btw guys, you can watch the ed, it doesnt have any spoilers as far as im aware

Also, an interesting idea to put forth this world has no shortage of magical phenomenon that can affect memory. And a little known fact for anime onlys about the scene of the anime where he’s first transported to another world. That’s not how it happened in the novel there’s no concrete before and after the story starts when he’s already in the square. So the question becomes are we sure the first loop we saw when he died with Emilia was actually the first one.

A
A Guy · April 30, 2026

Another thing to note while it can be pure coincidence the fact that the only other person besides Al that we know for a fact, was brought to this world. Seems to have the same very specific knowledge that Subaru has and has an apprentice that is almost a 1 to 1 of season one Subaru. Who also has a tendency to speak Engrish.

Also, you guys have the go-ahead to react to the ending

A
A Guy · April 30, 2026

It’s also important to note almost every significant figure or antagonist up to this point that have ties to ancient history. Have names directly connected to constellations that includes Subaru as the tower’s name directly translates into the name Subaru in Japanese.

A
A Guy · April 30, 2026

At this one I don’t know if it’s a spoiler cause it’s been cut content up until now so the context required to understand what’s going on isn’t there. But the first scene was not a dream.

In case you didn't know the Pleiades Watchtower is named after the constellation Plaiedes, and the Japanese name for Pleiades is Subaru.
