Dev Update! 1/17/23

Hey, hey friends! How's everyone doing this week?

First off -- sorry for the late update. I informed folks over on the Discord that this would be delayed, but I know not everyone checks on that stuff consistently. I've had a bit of a rough time for the past week or so, with random life stuff just kicking my ass. Then on Monday I got some news that kind of sent me into an emotional tailspin, and I just couldn't get it together. Tuesday was no better, and I basically spent it laying in bed and staring at the ceiling. Today I've got a killer headache and my sinuses are all stuffy, but I'm basically back to normal.

You folks know I hate missing these updates, so I never do that lightly. And though everyone's always super nice about it, I still feel like you're all owed an explanation when I flake on this stuff. So, that's what happened.

Moving on! Work on the game continues apace, though I'm not really into a proper work groove yet. Today I set up the location for a new scene, which you can see above. Anytime I'm working with multiple figures and a big, resource-hungry set, I have to do a lot of planning. That means finding good camera angles to hide background objects, reducing texture sizes, and writing around certain limitations. It's a fun challenge, though. Makes me feel like an indie film director, who has to make up for budgetary limitations with trickery!

At the moment, I have several big chunks of the chapter written, locations set up for all the scenes I'll need,  and a modest 50 renders finished. I'm planning to get into a proper work groove in the next couple of days, setting a goal to knock out 30+ renders each day. If I can do that, I'm hopeful I can make my ambitious goal of having the next chapter out, by the end of February. We'll see how it goes.
