Hazelnut Latte v0.16.2 Progress Report 3
Hello and welcome to another progress report!
We skipped last week because all of our efforts were on releasing the Public Demo containing Episode 1! Now that the demo is mostly behind us, we can look ahead to v0.16.2, the next update coming to Hazelnut Latte on November 3rd!
For the next build, all assets and animations are done. Frisbee has finished its draft of the build, and I just need to do the final pass to approve everything. 33% of the build is already built, and we hope to finish soon so we can test and refine it.
The 2 new tracks in the build aren't finalised yet, so you'll hear their unfinished versions.
All reported bugs have been squashed, so hopefully nothing breaks for v0.16.2!
We have a number of features we want to start working on, with the main priorities being to improve the skip, introduce a system that auto-saves the game before a choice, and figure out how translations will work.
We want to get a rollback feature working like Ren'Py's native one, but it's gonna take time. Until then, we want to do everything we can to make traversal easier.
I do want to address that: by the time Episode 2 ends, Episodes 1 and 2 will have more content than the first 5 Episodes of the Ren'Py era. It's mind-blowing that in a few months we'll completely eclipse the first 5 old episodes. That is why we keep stressing that this restart isn't a one-to-one transfer of old content, but a true redo of the game.
I hope everyone understands just how crazy all of this is ;)
That said, we'll be releasing a hotfix for v0.16.1 soon, along with a hotfix for the public demo, so stay tuned!
And of course, expect the $3 tier build for v0.16.1 tomorrow!

It's amazing seeing that the game has practically the same amount of content as the previous version, but now I remember reading that the game will have 20+ chapters. Is this idea still for this game or do you plan to do less chapters? I feel that 20 chapters may be a bit too much.
17* not 20 I'd like to try to tell the game's story with as little content as possible, just so I don't spend the rest of my life making this one game :) We're sacrificing a lot so we can get the game made.
Since you mentioned the rollback feature, are you considering an indicator of which paths you are seen? Some of us are always looking to see all the scenes but might not remember every choice, so some way for the game to tell you if you've seen everything related to a certain choice might be nice.
Rollback, as in a Ren'Py visual novel, is when scrolling the mouse wheel makes the game rewind time. This feature is natively available in the Ren'Py engine, but we would need to do a lot of work to get it working.
