Hazelnut Latte v0.15 Progress Report 12/9/25

Howdy everyone! It hasn't been a whole week since the last report, but it is still time for our weekly progress report!

Before I dive in, I want to address something. A comment I keep getting is: Will the Unity build be for mobile/Android? This is always odd to me, as I've never said it wouldn't be available. Though I guess I never outright said that it would. So I'll say it here and now:

Yes, the Unity builds will be available to download and play on Android devices.

If something ever happens to make this not a reality, I will make an announcement. This is the plan. Mobile users make up a lot of you, and we want to serve you on your device of choice, as long as it's not an iPhone.

Progress Report

The options menu is going very well! Our goal at the moment is to make the options menu, then work on the main menu, and then the in-game menu. This gives us a good structure and makes the build more coherent. Additionally, we are currently developing the main menu. We have Pamika making some fantastic art for it, and I feel like we have a killer design. So that is sketched out and approved.

Something else that relates to the options menu is the music and a big announcement. Up until now, the music in Hazelnut Latte has been purchased in packs from composers. Composers sell music packs for people to use, but there are downsides to this. First, the music is not tailored to the game. This means no song is made for a specific scene, character, or tone. I was able to achieve some cohesion by using packs from the same composer most of the time. The other downside is the rights. If you buy a music pack, you are only able to use that music in your game. You can't release a soundtrack or anything like that. It wouldn't make sense, since anyone could also buy the rights and make their own game with the same score as yours.

To alleviate those issues and make the game better and more focused, I have hired a composer to create an original soundtrack for Hazelnut Latte! Thankfully, it's also the composer I bought most of the music from in the first place. Welcome, lolurio, to the Hazelnut Latte Family!

lolurio will work on a per-episode basis, meaning that for each episode, once we have it all figured out, we will let him know which tracks need to be composed. We are planning to have 10 tracks in Episode 1, and it will only grow from there. I don't have a plan for how I'll handle an official release of the soundtrack, but I'll likely wait until around Episode 5 before I start figuring that out.

Now, I already hear some of you: "But Rad, I like the music currently in the game!" I know you do! I do too, it's why I made sure to get the same guy. While we can't officially release that music, it will still be in the game! In the options, you can choose the Original Soundtrack or the Demo Soundtrack. Part of us figuring out the options menu is making sure you can switch which soundtrack you want to play. It will hit a point where there won't be demo music for some locations and moments. In that case, we'll use the new soundtrack.

Now, onto lewds. Koth is almost done animating the first lewd scene; we need to finalize it and move on to the second. I haven't seen the progress, but we are meeting tomorrow, and I am excited to see r̷̬͘ẻ̴̳͇̂͜͠d̴͚͖̓͆ḁ̴̄̚͝c̴͇̈́̈́̏ṱ̵̛̰̫ȇ̴̫̲̫̀ḏ̴̗̓ in action! She is just so hot, I can't wait for you to meet her. (the character in the black dress in the banner, if you're wondering)

As for lewd scenes, Kokman has sketched the final lewd scene and... whoa man. It looks absolutely amazing! This first episode runs the gamut of lewdness, so I hope everyone enjoys it.

The final background for this location has been completed! We have one more location to do, but I am having Pamika take a break to work on the main menu. I'm sure she is sick of drawing backgrounds and wants to draw some characters. So that falls under the UI Art category and will start moving in the next week or so.

Writing for Ep 1 has been done for a while, though after the animations are done, I'd like to do a 3rd draft to clean things up, see where I can improve, and match the writing to the animations. I have been stuck on this scene in Episode 2 for about 2 weeks. Hopefully, I can overcome it soon so I can be well ahead with writing. I got a new keyboard, which will help with some of the frustrations I was having. My old one wouldn't register "T" or "G" about 75% of the time, which was... annoying. Balancing team management and writing has been tricky. Things they don't tell you when you start!

But yeah, we've been making good progress over here! We are trying to get the episode to a certain point so we can see how everything is working and what we need to improve. Thank you all so so much for your continued support! It really does mean the world to me. I get to pay rent, see a doctor, and pay a lot of amazing people to work with me and make this game the best it can be!

We honestly think the Unity changes are going to blow you away ;)

Stay Rad!

Depending on your prior choices, yeah probably!

Hello! Sorry if this is a weird question, but I was trying to find out if I had done something wrong in my playthrough which resulted in me getting an outcome that I didn't want to happen? It seemed like the game almost softlocks you until you make that decision, regardless of what choices you've made prior. But, at the end of the most recent chapter, one of the tasks you have to complete to progress is to go to the brothel and speak to Jez. But, what ends up happening instead of actually speaking to him is that the game forces you to sleep with him. And, I apologize for being picky, but up until that point I was doing my damnedest to stay faithful to Hazel, and then eventually Robbie. But, in order to complete the chapter, it basically forced me to cheat on them, even after agreeing to being in a closed throuple and not taking any romantic routes with any of the other characters. So, I guess my question is, will there ever be a way to like, rectify that decision? Because for my initial playthrough, I really don't want to cheat on my partners at all. I know they're just code on a screen, but storytelling is art, and to me it feels really icky. Again, sorry if this is a strange comment to be getting. Also, if that entire sequence is intentional for story purposes, then I totally get it. I just wasn't sure if I had maybe done something incorrectly which forced that to be the only option in my playthrough.

Hey so you do not have to sleep with anyone to advance the story. You never HAVE to sleep with anyone, even someone you are romantically pursuing. If the game is locking you and needing you to do a lewd scene to progress, then you have encountered such a rare bug no one has reported it until now. I'm not even sure what choice this could have been, since any advances Jeze makes, you can say no. Even if you hire him, you can you just wanna hang out. What choice do you get to that makes you have sex to progress?

After recently playing some Unity VNs I have three questions. 1. Will there be a rollback feature? 2. Will there be a textbox opacity slider? 3. Will creating manual saves be as easy and convenient as it is in Renpy? I like how all I need to do is right-click to open the save/load menus. It can be annoying playing Unity games where you need to wait until you're back in the 'hub-world' then have to navigate in-game phone or PC menus in order create a save. It's a lot of extra steps especially if you need to quit the game in a rush and don't want to lose progress. Love the game though, can't wait to try the new build.

Hey, thank you for the questions! 1. No, we are not planning on having a rollback. Unity's dialogue model differs significantly from Ren'Py's, making rollback difficult to implement. Maybe we'll do it one day, but we're not wasting time wrestling with it now. 2. Yes, we will have a textbox opacity slider. In addition, we're using a basic font and a dyslexia-friendly font. 3. We're still working on the save system, but the goal is to be able to pause and save/load at any time. Other games likely have you navigate elsewhere because the dialogue system many of us use doesn't natively support saving. For example, when you play a game, you have a brief dialogue with someone, and then once that's done, you can save. But we're making games where talking is most of what you do. So we're in the process of making it work.

Oh ho ho, she!? We're getting another trans fem character? Let's go! Also, we're getting an original soundtrack as well? You're really going all out, aren't you? Love to see it!
