Regarding the Download Issues
Hey everyone! Over the past few days more and more of our members and non members have been experiencing issues downloading files off the Google Drive.
You may have seen an error along the lines of "Sorry, you can't view or download this file at this time. Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently."
Our understanding is Google Drive will throttle a file if it is being downloaded too frequently or being interacted with by too many users in a short timeframe. We think the posters are the culprit in this and it is beginning to spread to other downloads. So, the limit may be on the drive rather than individual files at this point. In full transparency we are not experts and this is our best understanding based off what others have experienced.
To put it plainly we are suffering from success. We want you all to know we are actively looking for a solution to this and will hopefully have this fixed or solved soon. We are exploring all avenues so if you have any good recommendations for data hosting and sharing please let us know!
In the meantime these are the temporary fixes we have found that work.
1. Make a copy of the folder on your drive and download it from there
Login to your google drive and create a new folder
Open a link from the folders
In the top-right corner, click more actions and click "Add to starred" In your google drive
Go to starred, right-click the link, hover "Organize" and select "Add shortcut"
Select your newly created folder to add the shortcut
Go to "My drive" and right-click your folder and select "Download"
2: Instead of hitting the direct download button, click the "Add to My Drive" and you should be able to download it from there.
3: Wait 24 hours till the download count resets.
We understand this is the most inconvenient option and apologize for the trouble
We will be trying different solutions throughout the week and if it comes down to it we may try reuploading certain popular files and seeing if that helps. We thank you for your patience and will keep you updated!
