How you all are viewing this is precisely how I viewed it. When it comes to the isekai genre folks want this OP mc who has ZERO faults. He just dives into the world and immediately is OP. And the moment a genre introduces you to an mc who has mental trauma and weird behaviors folks immediately say "avoid it", "I'm not watching this", "this is why I will not be watching". It's not about forcing anyone to watch and it's not about trying heavily persuade others not to watch. This show brings out a lot of people who heavily want to ask, "why would you choose to watch this over other great shows!?" This is precisely why so many story driven anime's with depth, character development, and trauma always get the most hate because people want bland mc's who fit in their tiny little box tied with a nice pretty little bow. They don't want the character to have faults, act odd, be bullied, nor do they want the show to actually address those things. When I first stumbled across this series, all I kept hearing was "don't watch it", "it's garbage", and the list goes on.. When I watched it, I had the same exact thoughts you all did and came to the same conclusions you all did. Yet, still everyone tries to coddle this show and they constantly try to dissuade you from watching by telling you "be careful", "it's controversial!".. I don't believe this show is controversial, I believe too many people are one dimensional in their perspectives of what a isekai mc should be. Most of your other isekai's (except re:zero) address these traumatic moments. I wish more people didn't generate these boxed in views and then try to force others to adhere to it. It's fine if you don't like the show, but stop trying to get everyone else to not watch it simply because you didn't like it. I just dislike how the internet constantly tries to force content creators and viewers to not watch something specifically because they didn't like it. If all I did was watch isekai's and nothing else calling a rom-com trash is pointless because I've never even explored the genre. The internet likes to berate MC's that have traumas because depending on the genre they just want action packed fights like Dragon ball z and not a story that shifts to explaining to you why an mc is damaged mentally. Glad you guys are enjoying the show thus far!
Ron, you're misunderstanding and I think you missed these points about Roxy. They already explained that incantations are required to cast spells. In episode 1, Rudi reads in one of the magic books that incantations are required to cast. Then when Roxy tests Rudi she says incantations are required. Staffs help focus and increase magic. They are not required to cast magic. But Rudi showed that not only did he not need incantations to cast magic, his casts were far stronger and more focused than her own spells that required all these techniques AND years of training. Plus he's 5. She is a powerful and strong mage in her own right but when she sees Rudi she is unsure she is at the right level to even teach him. Like what she has learned is nothing. Probably also feel like an imposter. So she is a mage but she was taken back because she saw things Rudi could do that never crossed her mind or thought was possible. It would be pretty earth shattering if everyone in the world thought magic had to be spoken, never even thought about not speaking incantations and then find out that centuries of belief were wrong. Being able to cast something the moment you thought of it vs expending energy and time to cast a spell is huge. Some of the incantations can be long too. Instant vs 10+ second casts is a night and day difference. Plus using it in places you can't speak like underwater.
What the hell you guys pull me into? I was gonna recommend this to my teenage daughter. Emphasize WAS! I’m still gonna watch this series with this community though😏. Does this makes me awful?

Well as a first time watcher Im having mixed feelings already. On one hand the story seems interesting and I can see how the mc is stepping out his comfort zone and having development. But it’s definitely weird he himself thinks of Roxy as a kid but pervs on her, idk how to feel about that part but I’ll still stick around to see how this plays out.
It only gets better from here please keep watching till the end 🫡

I keep trying to give this show a chance since the story seems really nice but the “weird” stuff just keeps sucking the intrigue I have away from the show. I wish i can narrow my view to only appreciate the positives but I just can’t, idk if it’s because of my own experiences but I genuinely find that kind of stuff too appalling to overlook. I’ll probably still TRY to power through it though since I love watching stuff with you guys anyway 🫶

When I first watched the show I was more forgiving but it's only after getting the full context of the scenes after researching and knowing what I know now about how the story unfolds that I gave up on this show. So please don't hate on them for trying to look at this show positively, they're going through the same journey we did. Let them enjoy it if they like it. I'm personally not going to watch it and that is simply just my opinion.
The scene where you assumed she might be a fraud or faking magic, when you didn't know what she was doing with her hand in the house, it was her trying to cast a spell without incantation, she was probably thinking "let's give it a try", hoping maybe she actually can do it too. The whole scene and the rest of the episode shows, how she felt after teaching Rudy, he was already almost on the level of her magic, and he could cast Incantation-less while being like 4-5, meanwhile she's practiced for a LOT longer, and has to do incantations. He already surpassed her, and she knew being with her he wouldn't progress, also she was just feeling inferior too.
Rudeus was touching himself to weird shit when I say weird it’s lil girls but they’ll say it wasn’t it was lolis which is basically the same shit
They is what makes him the biggest weird o but he honestly matures and becomes a good person but it’s not to say what he did in his past life is acceptable but you need to separate them the whole point is he was not a rude person and wasted his life and this was his second chance. Spoiler or idk what the counts as (im not sure if it’s explicitly stated but what he was fapping over was his younger niece at a pool or some shit but I don’t think it’s ever stated in the anime)
Yeah at the end of the day there definitely some weird undertone acts throughout the show that can be tough to digest and at times very weird, but overall the story has some amazing plot twist and the fight scenes get a lot better as the show goes on. If you guys stick with it I don't think you'll regret it, but if its to hard to digest that's understandable as well.
The controversial stuff is just some select scenes that the show would do just fine without but its there so it is what it is. What he was fapping to was also part of the controversy but the anime doesn't make it super clear anyway and honestly just keep it that way. Shows world environment and magic showcasing is top notch.
The way I see it is he knows he wasn’t a good person and knows he wasted his life he has a second chance also people forget with or without your memories your body has hormones and that changes the way you act

I initially listened to the people that said the anime is horrible but after starting to watch it I can definitely see where the controversy is but like It's not telling us what Rudeus is doing is good, he's written this way on purpose. It's just a story with a morally gray main character and I think that's okay
pointing out that when the brother kicks him out in his past life he calls him a “f-king NEET” acronym for Not Employed, in Education, or Training. in Western terms basically someone who not only lives in their mom’s basement but also has no desire or drive to leave it.
One of my favorite parts about Rudy is how even with his memories he still has to grow up in every way besides game and freak knowledge and even then his freak knowledge is from the hub. It's his second chance not just at living a fulfilling life but also at growing up so it's also a coming of age story.

the show is actually S tier, but the pervy stuff and questionable stuff doesnt stop and it gets cringy at times. Despite that i really enjoy the show and world.
Haha this show is amazing. The animation is a bit different than some of the crazier ones like bleach and JJK, but Mushoku has its own charm and it has amazing action as well.

MOST of what people complain about are the things you guys just watched in these first two episodes so no need to worry about the controversy 'ramping up' as you said Ron. Also, I respect the view of just watching it for what it is, that's the correct take on anything fictional, it's a story, we should consume it as such. Of course if weird things are happening without actual reason then it makes sense to not engage with it but you'll find that these weird things in Mushoku Tensei do have a point to them and aren't just there for a certain target audience.
Well the first few episodes theirs a couple scenes but the biggest is something that happens later on and last the rest of the show which I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Which in reality is just a stupid reason to hate the show and falls into the category of double standards. I won’t directly say it just cause it would obviously spoil it for them but I hope and assume you know what I’m talking about. Completely agree with you though. These first few scenes and the one thing. I understand if you dislike those first few scenes but to hate a show because of it is sad. I swear westerners are always the majority complainers when it comes to something in an anime such as story, animation, character design or fan service. Like theirs PLENTYYYYYY of thousands of animes. Don’t like a show then don’t watch it. If it’s not your cup of tea then find something else but don’t tell people it’s a bad show or rate it poorly just because it’s not your taste. If the anime is nothing but a slide show and the action is terrible and story dosent make sense. Thats an understandable reason to dislike a show. If it’s not demon slayer quality it’s a bad show. If it’s not action packed with aura like solo leveling it’s a bad show. If it’s not an amazing show all around like AOT, Naruto, 86, Bleach or so on…it’s a bad show. Sad and disappointing.
The whole scene with her not using magic without her staff wasn't because she didn't have her staff but she was trying to cast magic without the incantation like rudy can and since she can't she feels inferior.
Roxy healed him yes, but she had to leave cause why would you try and make friends and hang out with others if you are comfortable with those already around you.
When you thought Roxy was "losing magic or something", she was just trying to cast a spell without incantation, like Rudy does (which she didn't even know was possible so that's what shattered her self-esteem)

Glad you guys are ignoring the haters that dislike the show for absolutely zero reason. I understand being annoyed with the MC “SOMETIMES” but in general he’s a good character and it’s a very good show. The biggest reason people dislike the show is genuinely stupid and makes zero sense but I won’t fully say cause I feel it kinda spoils the show a little bit but curious to see how you guys continue to react to the PEAKNESS!!
I mean... there are definitely reasons someone would not like it, but the really weird people act like just by watching we idolize Rudeus or like his bad traits would be installed into our brains or something.
