I think the fact their memories get mixed, is not exactly a repercussion of the D-mails changing the timelines back & forth or anything. It's just Okabe who now knows the timelines is actually trigerring the memories in those people by telling them that. Some people might think the timelines were created when they used the D-mails, but i think the Timelines always existed, and an infinite amount in fact. Without experiencing it a timeline can never be confirmed, but since Okabe visited those timelines and is telling the other person directly "You were..." and is telling detailed info/differences, he is triggering something like a Deja Vu, at least for them it seems like DejaVu, it seems familiar, because it is actual true. It's like getting access to hidden memories.

So the way I’ve always seen the memory thing is like a dejavu, which is crazy because is a dejavu a memory of a different timeline for us in reality!? 🫪
