So glad that you've gotten so invested in my favorite anime of all time, and even gets motivated in the gym from it and we're just at the start ^^ Everytime I watch Jason's story it always gets me teared up :')

One of the most bittersweet episodes. But that's boxing—no matter how inspiring a fighter's story is, no one is guaranteed victory. In the end, reality doesn't reward potential, effort, or a great backstory. It rewards what happens in the ring on that day. That's a lesson that goes far beyond boxing and reminds us how life itself works. This anime is freaking amazinnngggg! Glad you went through this journey.
This is what I consider the first great match of the series with many more to come they just keep getting better and better

Why is it so damn epic?
Like you said in the previous episode, the mental aspect of a boxing match is very important! Ippo won this match because the mental part of his game was just as strong, if not, stronger, than his physical attributes. Every time I watch this episode, I think it's crazy that this is only the first round of the rookie tournament lol
One of the things I like about this fight is how Jason is clearly more skilled than Ippo and can even rival his power somewhat, but Ippo wins purely on spirit and heart.
This hit me in the feels man. Ippos progression is so moving.

Man I always want to get in a fight like this with someone to hype up my story like…I heard Kai after his wife died spent 8 month in the wilderness, taking his anger out on bears. When he came back his fist was so calust, I saw him punch a hole in a 3 feet thick concrete wall. “There it is the fist of concrete”. Something like that. The announcer and Ippo friends really hype up the fight.
